Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 42 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 42 is a five-round featherweight bout between two of the best in the weight class in Max Holloway and Yair Rodriguez. Holloway is coming off of an amazing win over Calvin Kattar earlier this year where he poured the kitchen sink on his opponent for 25 minutes and set a UFC record for most significant strikes landed at 445. Prior to that win over Kattar, Holloway had lost two straight decisions to the champ Alexander Volkanovski. He is now looking to beat Rodriguez and get back into the title picture at 145lbs. Rodriguez, meanwhile, has gone unbeaten over his last three fights. However, he hasn’t fought since a decision win over Jeremy Stephens over two years ago. With Rodriguez being out for so long, and with Holloway looking so good lately, it’s no wonder Holloway is a giant favorite to win.
- The co-main event is a heavyweight bout between Ben Rothwell and Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Rothwell has won three of his last four fights, including a submission win over Chris Barnett in his last outing, while de Lima is coming off of a decision win over Maurice Greene. This looks like a close fight between two inconsistent heavyweights, but Rothwell opened a slight favorite.
