Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar
Max Holloway returns this weekend off a loss to Dustin Poirier in hopes of getting back in the win column and continuing his surging featherweight win-streak. He’s going up against Frankie Edgar who they’ve tried to book against a few different times now, but unfortunate injuries have halted the fight until hopefully this Saturday.
Holloway has truly beaten a who’s who of fighters in the UFC but the same can be said for his adversary, Frankie Edgar. Both men should cement their spot into the UFC Hall of Fame one day as they have both achieved plenty, especially Edgar.
As for the matchup I don’t think it gets better than this. Both men have an incredible pace with high-volume output for striking. I’d say Holloway’s volume is big step above the rest of the division, but Edgar isn’t that far behind. Holloway will need to use his jab and put the pressure on Edgar early on whilst fending off all takedown attempts from Edgar. Edgar’s top game and ground-n-pound is some of the best in the UFC – Holloway will want to avoid that at all costs. Edgar may get a takedown or two early on in the fight but I’m not banking on that. Holloway really has improved his takedown defense and overall his entire MMA game every time we see him fight and he is only continuing to get better at the ripe, young age of 27.
While I don’t think Edgar is on a huge decline it is worth noting he is 37. He has however benefited from not having to cut hardly any weight. Edgar has been in plenty of wars throughout his career especially the second and third fights against Gray Maynard. Holloway’s most damage he has taken would have to be from the Poirier fight just months ago.
I’m looking to take Holloway by a unanimous decision victory here. He usually takes a little bit to get his flow and rhythm down but after that he really picks his opponents apart and breaks them down. Edgar should be fine early on but too many jabs, kicks, and strikes will start to wear him down and break him. I don’t think either fighter will gas out but absorbing too much damage will take a toll on anyone. I’m picking Max Holloway to get it done here as he is truly a once in a generation type of fighter and I don’t see Edgar upsetting the young Hawaiian Saturday night.
Prop: Max Holloway wins by decision (+215)
I would rather wait for Max Holloway to win by unanimous decision as it’s the most likely outcome to happen and will have more value as opposed to just a simple decision victory prop.
Thanks for reading and best of luck!
