UFC Fight Night 94: Johnson vs Poirier Date: September 17, 2016 Arena: State Farm Arena City: Hidalgo, TX The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be in Hidalgo, TX for the first time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 94: Johnson vs Poirier. The 12 fight card is set to kick off at 7pm ET on UFC Fight Pass, and preliminary action will follow at 8pm ET on FOX Sports 1, culminating with a six fight main card ont he same channel. Here is my parlay: Welterweight bout: Augusto Montano (+325) vs Belal Muhammad (-400) Gabe’s Thoughts: Montano is returning to action following a one year drug suspension and a unanimous decision loss to Cathal Pendred in front of his home Mexican crowd. He will be looking to get back into the win column by taking out Muhammad, who has similar goals of his own. “Remember the Name” dropped a unanimous decision to Alan Jouban in his promotional debut, which marked the first official loss of his professional mixed martial arts career, and in this quick return to action he will be looking to return to the win column in impressive fashion. I favor Muhammad in this match-up due to his superior technical striking and durability, however Montano will have a size and home crowd advantage, and he is dangerous on the feet. I think Muhammad gets the better of “Dodger” on the feet in this contest, outpointing him for the majority of three rounds en route to a unanimous decision victory on the judges’ scorecards. I see no value in Muhammad at his current offering price of -400, and at these odds, I see this fight as a “dog or pass” situation and I am ultimately opting to take a pass. That said, I do see value in the Total of Over 2.5 rounds at -170, as I think both 170-pounders win this fight on the cards more often than not. Gabe’s Call: Muhammad by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) Welterweight bout: Erick Montano (+350) vs Randy Brown (-440) Gabe’s Thoughts: Montano took a controversial split decision over Enrique “Wasabi” Marin to become to TUF: Latin America 2 winner and he will now be looking to make it two in a row against Brown, who is coming off a second round rear naked choke loss to the undefeated Michael Gates. I think Brown is the superior striker heading into this 170-pound contest and I see him finding success in keeping this fight standing and getting the better of the Mexican on the feet. I could see a late finish for Brown but I think he takes this fight on the judges’ scorecards more often than not. Despite the fact that I see this fight being somewhat one-sided, I do not think Brown holds any betting value at his current price tag of -440, though I do think there’s some value in the Total of Over 1.5 rounds at -145. Montano has never been stopped with strikes in his professional mixed martial arts career and I favor him to make it through at least 7.5 minutes of this contest without being stopped.
