The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) went to Hamburg, Germany for the first time in promotional history this past Saturday (September 3, 2016) with UFC Fight Night 93: Arlovski vs Barnett. Following the night of entertaining action, let’s take a look at a few potential match-ups featuring some of the competitors from the evening… Josh Barnett vs Junior Dos Santos Barnett defeated Andrei Arlovski via third round rear naked choke submission in the main event for UFC Fight Night 93 in Hamburg this past Saturday and finds himself back in the win column in the UFC’s heavyweight division. For his next outing inside the Octagon, I would like to see him take on fellow ex-UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. The Brazilian also bounced back into the win column in his latest outing, defeating the last man to beat Barnett in Ben Rothwell. I think Barnett vs JDS is a solid heavyweight pairing and makes sense at the moment. I think this potential heavyweight showdown would serve well as the main event for November’s UFC Fight Night 100 in Brazil. Jan Blachowicz vs Ed Herman Blachwocz lost a unanimous decision to Alexander Gustafsson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 93 in Hamburg this past Saturday and will be looking to get back into the win column his next time out. An opponent I think that makes sense for his next outing inside the Octagon is Herman, who is coming off a second round knockout at the hands, or knee, of Nikita Krylov. I think this potential light heavyweight contest would be a good addition to either the FOX Sports 1 or Fight Pass prelims for December’s UFC 207 in Las Vegas. Peter Sobotta vs Alan Jouban Sobotta defeated Nicolas Dalby via unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards to return to the win column following a first round body-kick knockout against Kyle Noke. In his efforts to climb up the rankings in the UFC’s welterweight division, I would like to see him take on Jouban for his next outing. Jouban is coming off a unanimous decision win over Belal Muhammad and currently enjoys a two fight winning streak inside the Octagon. I think Sobotta vs Jouban would make for an excellent potential match-up in the UFC’s welterweight division and I would like to see it booked for a future fight card. I think it is a scrap that makes sense and would be a good fit to either the main card or preliminary card headliner for December’s UFC on FOX 22 in Sacramento. Taylor Lapilus vs Thomas Almeida I think Lapilus vs Almeida would make for a phenomenal potential match-up in the UFC’s bantamweight division, despite it being a rare “winner vs loser” contest. Lapilus is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Leandro Issa and Almeida is coming off a first round knockout at the hands of potential current number one challenger Cody Garbrandt. I think Lapilus vs Almeida would be a fun scrap between a pair of talented strikers, and it is certainly one bout I would not want to miss. I think this fight would be a good fit for the main card to the aforementioned UFC Fight Night 100 in Brazil this November.
