At long last, Nick Diaz is a free man, so he received quite a bit of attention yesterday, the first day that his suspension is over. Diaz was popped for marijuana following his fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 183 on January 31, 2015 and has not competed since. It was the third time Diaz had tested positive for marijuana metabolites and the Nevada State Athletic Commission tried to make an example out of him, initially suspending him five years, which was later reduced to 18 months following an appeal. Diaz made an appearance on ESPN yesterday, claiming no one in the welterweight division is a big enough star for him to fight right now and he’s just going to wait for a fight that excites him. Strong words from a man who hasn’t won a fight in nearly five years.
