Lightweights: Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis Cerrone was dominant in his win over Jeremy Stephens, as he picked apart “Lil’ Heathen” with an array of strikes to earn a unanimous decision. The win puts “Cowboy” back on track in his quest to earn a shot at UFC gold and a win over a Top 10 lightweight like Anthony Pettis would get him one step further. Both Cerrone and Pettis match up evenly in all areas of the game, and this is a fight that fans have been clamoring over for some time. The bout makes perfect sense now, as both are lower-end Top 10 155-pounders in need of a big-name win. Bantamweights: Yves Jabouin vs. Francisco Rivera Both Jabouin and Rivera put their devastating striking on display in clear-cut unanimous verdicts over Jeff Hougland and Alex Soto, respectively. While they were both impressive in victory, their opposition wasn’t anything to write home about. A match between the two would be a proper leap in competition for each of them as well an exciting clash of styles. The bout would surely provide fireworks if the varied striking arsenal of “Tiger” were to collide with the explosive boxing of “Cisco” on a future card. Middleweights: Tom Lawlor vs. Brad Tavares In back-to-back fights on the UFC on FUEL TV 3 card, Tavares earned the nod over Dongi Yang from all three cage-side judges while Lawlor punched his way to a 50-second knockout win over Jason MacDonald. Not only did the two share similar position on the fight card, but they also find themselves at near-identical spots on the UFC’s middleweight roster. Both fighters entered the promotion as prospects but have yet to make a jump above the bottom tier of the division. With each man faltering when taking a step up in competition, a fight against one another is a fitting next move. In addition, the solid wrestling and boxing of the two makes for a compelling stylistic matchup.
