Here are my parlays: Women’s Flyweight bout: Joanne Calderwood (+150) vs Valerie Letourneau (-170) Gabe’s Thoughts: This is the first ever UFC women’s flyweight bout and I really like Letourneau in this division. I really like her in this match-up in particular, as I think she will be be the more aggressive fighter dictating Octagon control and outstriking her opponent. She will likely force Calderwood to attempt to take the fight to the mat, and I see her succesfully defending Calderwood’s takedown attempts and keeping the fight on the feet, where she will proceed to outstrike her Scottish counter-part. I think these ladies put on a show on Saturday night in an effort to put this division on the map in the UFC and when all is said and done, the French-Canadian is left standing center-cage with her hand in the air. Gabe’s Call: Letourneau by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Lightweight bout: Jason Saggo (-175) vs Leandro Silva (+155) Gabe’s Thoughts: I believe Saggo is the superior mixed martial artist heading into this 155-pound contest and has the brighter future in the division. I see Saggo making this a one-sided fight and getting one step closer to the UFC’s top 15 rankings at 155-pounds. I think Saggo will score an early takedown in this match-up and brutalize Silva from top position on the mat, likely earning a first round stoppage along the way. Silva may survive the first, but I don’t think he will see the final bell and I do favor Saggo to get the job done by defeating Silva inside the distance in under 2.5 rounds. I understand that many see this as a close fight and a “dog or pass” situation at the current odds, but contrary to popular opinion I think Saggo should be a -450 betting favorite so I think he holds great value at his current offering price of -175.
