Yesterday the lines for ‘The Ultimate Fighter 17’ Finale were released for the fights that were announced at the time. Today, MMA Oddsmaker Nick Kalikas open the remaining lines at Several Bookmakers, as the finale fight between Uriah Hall and Kelvin Gastelum was determined on last night’s episode of the show. It should be noted that the last time a fighter coming off of a season of TUF had the type of hype Hall has now was when Phillippe Nover ended up losing to a +300 Efrain Escudero on the finale show. Kelvin Gastelum’s punching power, smothering top game and good motor could make him the next in a long line of underdogs to play spoiler on TUF Finale cards. As for Samman against Kevin Casey, there should be no surprises there. Casey is normally effective for one round, where he gets on top and controls position and tires after that. While Samman never went past the first round in the house, and has only been out of the first four times in his career, he should have the superior cardio and owns the better all-around game. The most interesting line to me of the bunch is in the Collin Hart/Luke Barnatt fight. Much of the public seems to like Barnatt’s length and striking game, but the question is how he’ll fare against a grinding fighter like Hart. The Bubba McDaniel/Gilbert Smith fight seems particularly difficult to bet. Bubba’s seeming hesitance to fight Hall on the show soured some fans towards him and his attitude, as his heart and desire came into question. At the same time, Smith did nothing to impress while in the house, and hasn’t shown much beyond strength and a decent top game in his career thus far. At this opener, the fight screams to stay away from my perspective.
