UFC 198 was live from Curitiba, Brazil this past Saturday night (May 14, 2016) with a stacked 12-fight card that produced a 50% finish rate. Following the entertaining night of scraps, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see in action inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Nate Marquardt The 37-year-old veteran is now 2-6 in his last eight bouts inside the Octagon and following his first round knockout loss to Thiago “Marreta” Santos this past weekend, I think it is time for him to hang up the gloves. I would not be surprised to see the UFC release him at this point, but if he wants another fight, I think they will most likely abide. Four of the aforementioned six defeats have been via T/KO, and his fans don’t want to see him suffer the same fate for a fifth time. Patrick Cummins Cummins suffered a first round TKO at the hands of veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in front of Lil Nog’s fellow roaring Brazilian crowd. It was a great win for the Brazilian and an impressive way for him to return to the win column, meanwhile it put Cummins on a two-fight defecit and 1-3 in his last four, with all defeats coming by way of T/KO. Following the afroementioned stats and considering his wrestling-heavy, one-trick-pony fighting style, I think there is a fair chance that the UFC releases the 35-year-old from his contract following that outing. However, considering the fact that it is a razor-thin division, I think the wise move would be to allow him to stick around for one more fight. My guess is that it is 50/50 whether we will see “Durkin” back inside the Octagon. If not, my money says Bellator will be quick to sweep him up.
