The Charlo brothers, undefeated 154 lbers Jermall (23-0) and Jermell (27-0) are in world title bouts this Saturday, May 21st at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. The card counts on three world title fights in all at Super Welterweight and all three of them are getting attention at the sport books. No over/under has been listed yet for any of the trio of 12 round fights. Super Welterweight 12 rounds Vanes Martirosyan +625 Erislandy Lara -950 Note: Cuba’s enigmatic Erislandy Lara (22-2-2) defends his IBO and WBA titles against veteran Vanes Martirosyan (36-2-1). There are some who believe that Lara is one of the top five boxers in the world, and their are some who are bored by his highly technical, defensive style. In Martirosyan, he gets a 2004 US Olympian who he fought to a draw back in November of 2012. That fight ended in the ninth round when Martirosyan was cut over his eye. Martirosyan was undefeated at the time and since that fight he has gone 4-2 fighting at a high level. Lara though is expected to have motivation as his reputation as boring has hurt him in the purse and activity depratments. Super Welterweight 12 rounds Austin Trout +335 Jermall Charlo -420 Note: Jermall is the IBF world titleholder, and he is facing a tested veteran in Austin Trout (30-2). Trout’s 2 career losses are to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara, and he owns a win over Miguel Cotto so he has fought fighters at the top of the heap. This will be Charlo’s second defense of the IBF belt that he won last Spetember with a third round stoppage over long in the tooth Cornelius Bundrage. His first defense came in November of 2015 when he stopped Wilky Campfort in the fourth but it is safe to say that Trout is his toughest opposition to date. Super Welterweight 12 rounds John Jackson +500 Jermell Charlo -700 Note: Jermell will be looking to follow in his brother’s footsteps to a world title as he vies for the vacant WBC World title against John Jackson (20-2) of the US Virgin Islands. Jackson comes from a fighting family and he has Olympic experience having participated in the 2008 Olympic games. The biggest fight of his career came against veteran Andy Lee. Jackson was ahead on the judges cards and he had knocked Lee down already when Lee sent him to sleep with one big punch. That fight came in the undercard of Sergio Martinez versus Miguel Cotto at tMadison Square Garden back in June of 2014, so Jackson has been around big fights as well.
