Oscar De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions are at the Belasco Theater with their “L.A. Fight Club” series this Friday night, (April 15, 2016). The event sees the featured fights air on the Spanish language channel Estrella TV, and two of the bouts are already getting attention at the sport books. The main event of this Friday’s show has an international feel as veteran super welterweights Yoshihiro Kamegai (26-3-1) faces Mexico’s Jesus Soto Karass (28-10-3). The 10-round bout sees Karass entering a -240 favorite, with Kamegai coming back at +200. The bout does not have an over/under posted. Kamegai is an experienced fighter who owns a perfect record in Japan but is just 2-3-1 in bouts in the United States. We last saw Karass fight n June of 2014, so he has been away for almost two years. In his last 10 fights, he has gone 4-6, but he has faced some of the best fighters in the world, including Keith Thurman, Andre Berto, Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana. Kamegai went back to Japan and won a fight this past October, but at 147 and 154 lbs, Kamegai does not have a lot of competition in Japan. Karass is 33 years old now as he mounts this comeback, but back in 2013 he was fighting for an interim WBA World title. Kamegai’s level of competition is much weaker than Karass’, but we will see if ring rust becomes a factor. The evening’s co-feature bout comes in the Cruiserweight division and sees undefeated 28-year old prospect Vyacheslav Shabranskyy (15-0) facing Derrick Findley (23-18-1). Entering the eight round fight, Shabranskyy is a huge -4400 favorite over Findley, who is returning at +2200. Shabranskyy is known as a slugger who boasts 12 KOs in his 15 career fights Findley is a veteran trial horse whose last five losses come to fighters who have a combined record of 88-2. The live card features six bouts in all and GBP usually makes the whole card available via a live stream with RingTV. Three four-round bout feature fighters from the GBP stable are making their boxing debuts.
