The big show Friday night comes to us from the DC Armory in Washington DC with a full night of boxing that sees the main events air on Spike TV. Super Lightweight 12 rounds Ashley Theophane +2000 Adrien Broner -4000 Note: Broner defends his WBA “Super World” title at Light Welterweight against Ashley Theophane. This match has a lot more attention than before as Broner made the regular news this week when felony robbery and assault charges were revealed against him in Cincinnati, his hometown. Nevertheless, Broner is a huge favorite, as he is considered too big and skilled for the rugged Theophane. Nevertheless, Theophane has Floyd Mayweather Jr in his corner and he has been preparing very seriously for this fight since October. Lightweight 10 rounds Algenis Mendez +280 Robert Easter Jr -340 Note: This is a step up fight for Easter Jr, the undefeated (16-0) prospect at Lightweight, as Algenis Mendez (23-3-1). Mendez is tested and a former World Champion at Super Featherweight. He is best remembered for being KO´d by Rances Barthelemy, bot the blow was ruled after the bell ending the second round, so the match was changed to a NC. In the re-match he went the full distance with Bathelemy, who is undefeated at 24-0. Easter has been fighting 10 rounders for a while and this is his fifth. Easter is the KO puncher here, with 13 stoppages to his name. Super Featherweight 10 rounds Guillermo Avila +1000 Gervonta Davis -2000 Note: Remember the name Gervonta Davis. At 14-0, the 21 year old southpaw boasts 13 knock outs already, and he is blessed with a pair of the fastest hands you are bound to see anywhere. At 23 years old, Avila is 16-5 and he has been in with some of the better names in the weight class such as Wilfredo Vasquez Jr, Romula Koaischa and Miguel Marriaga. Look for Davis to be too fast, too quixck, too strong for Avila in this one. Super Middleweight 10 rounds Michael Gbenga +2000 J’Leon Love -6000 Note: J´Leon Love (21-1) is looking for his forth win in a row since his August of 2014 loss to Rogelio Medina. At 28 years old, the time to make a move in the Super Middleweight division is now for Love. Gbenga is a veteran fighter with a 21-24 overall record, so this match basically serves as ring time for Love. On a card where most of the lines at the books are not competitive, Love enjoys the biggest advantage over his opponent. Lightweight 10 rounds Samuel Kotey Neequaye +1500 Anthony Peterson -4500 Note: Peterson holds an impressive 36-1 mark over his career and the 31 year old is trying to build on his current six fight winning streak. His career was derailed in September of 2010 when he took an ugly loss to Brandon RIos that saw Peterson dropped in the fifth and eventually disqualified for holding in the seventh. After that he took a year off, fought an eight round bout and took off another fifteen months. He has been fighting sub-par competition in 2014 and 2015, and he is going to need to step up his level of competition.
