Nick Diaz has formally requested a rematch with Georges St-Pierre. The Diaz camp today sent out a statement, which MMAFighting.com reported, where they said that due to “Weight Gate” — basically, St-Pierre is alleged to have received up to a .9 pound allowance in his UFC 158 title defence against Diaz — there should be a rematch. The basis of the argument is that, since Diaz and St-Pierre were contracted to fight at 170 pounds, there should have been no reason for there to have been a .9 allowance since it was a title fight, where there is no one-pound allowance like in non-title ights. There is no proof at all that St-Pierre actually weighed in at more than 170. However, because of the Quebec Boxing Commission’s rule where decimals aren’t taken into account, it’s possible that he did indeed step onto the scale somewhere between 170.1-170.9 pounds because he knew about this apparent loophole, while Diaz wasn’t told about the .9-pound allowance until just before weigh-ins (there is video proof of a UFC official explaining to Diaz the allowance, and the Diaz camp was upset they weren’t told the day before weigh-ins). The Diaz camp alleges that St-Pierre had an unfair advantage in the bout (even though there is no proof of that), and they want a rematch against St-Pierre, or for St-Pierre to vacate his title and for a fighter that weighs 170 pounds to fight for it. This whole thing sounds like a desperate attempt at getting a rematch for a fight Diaz was dominated in, and if the basis for the argument is that St-Pierre weighed in a fraction of a pound too heavy and therefore he shouldn’t be champion, there’s no way the Diaz camp wins this appeal. It would be nice if Diaz could accept a loss for once, because the perception of fans today is that he is a sore loser who can’t accept defeat, and that’s not good. Not at all. UFC 159 Main Card Set The UFC today announced the official pay-per-view lineup for UFC 159, which takes place April 27 at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. In the main event of the evening, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones takes on his arch rival Chael Sonnen in a five-round fight. The two fighters were coaches on TUF season 17 and they look to finally settle their score when they take on each other in a fight that many believe is easily Jones’ to lose. In the co-main event, middleweight contender Michael Bisping looks to get back in the title hunt by taking on Alan Belcher, who is also looking to get back into title contention. This is an excellent matchup between two solid 185 pounders and it should be a very fun affair. Also featured on the pay-per-view is a heavyweight bout between Roy Nelson and Cheick Kongo, a light heavyweight fight between Vinny Magalhaes and Phil Davis, and a lightweight tilt between New Jersey’s own Jim Miller and Pat Healy. All in all this should be a very fun event, and below is bout order for the PPV: UFC 159 PPV Card: Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen Michael Bisping vs. Alan Belcher Cheick Kongo vs. Roy Nelson Vinny Magalhaes vs. Phil Davis Pat Healy vs. Jim Miller
