World Series of Fighting 28 took place last night (Saturday, February 20, 2016) at Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove, California, and it featured some very violent and entertaining finishes as well as a pretty big surprise. Overall from a betting perspective, two betting favorites won while one underdog won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. WSOF 28 Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, WSOF bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes continued his run of dominance by absolutely slaughtering Joseph Barajas in just over a minute. Moraes unloaded a series of heavy leg kicks, eventually crippling Barajas as he fell to the canvas in agony for a leg kick TKO in 73 seconds. Moraes came through as a massive -1200 favorite (bet $1200 to win $100) while Barajas lost at +775 (bet $100 to win $775). In a the opening bout of the main card, welterweight prospect Ozzie Alvarez put on a showcase against Andrew Ramm. Alvarez consistently got the better of Ramm over the course of the full three rounds, and nearly finished the bout with a beautiful spinning kick in the final second of the fight that had Ramm on queer street and likely could have finished the bout had he had a few more seconds to work. Regardless, Alvarez was awarded the unanimous decision when it was all said and done. Alvarez came through as a -200 favorite, while Ramm was defeated as a +170 underdog. WSOF 28 Underdogs That Won In the co-main event of the evening, bantamweights Timur Valiev and Chris Gutierrez duked it out for the right to face Moraes at a future event. Both men were on long winning streaks, but Valiev was the fighter many expected to win, and the one many thought actually won. After a close first round, Valiev began taking over, showcasing his diverse array of flashy strikes and working from top position on the ground. Valiev seemed to the significantly busier fighter in the third round as well, emptying his gas tank with everything he had, but it didn’t sway two of the judges, who shockingly scored the bout 29-28 for Gutierrez to halt Valiev’s rise via controversial split decision. Gutierrez was victorious as a +400 underdog while Valiev seemingly got hosed as a -500 betting favorite.
