Bellator 93 Androscoggin Bank Colisee, Lewiston, Maine, US Thursday, March 21, 2013 Welterweight Fight: Marcus Davis (-220) vs. Waachiim Spiritwolf (+180) Fight Breakdown: A welterweight bout between two veterans looking to make a comeback takes place on the Bellator 93 main card as hometown hero Marcus Davis meets Waachiim Spiritwolf. Davis is currently a -220 favorite (bet $220 to win $100) at Several Bookmakers, while Spiritwolf is the underdog at +180 (bet $100 to win $180). Davis (21-9) is a long-time UFC veteran who has had a sort of career resurgence as of late, going 4-1 since being released by the UFC, including wins over Pete Spratt and David Bielkheden. The 39-year-old American is best known for his hands, as he has six career knockouts to his credit, but he also has an underrated ground game and has nine submission victories on his resume, too. Davis is definitely on the downside of his career and his chin is a huge question mark at this point, but if he fights smart and doesn’t turn this fight with Spiritwolf into a brawl he has a good chance at coming through with a victory in front of his hometown fans. Spiritwolf (9-11-1, 1 NC) is currently riding a nasty four-fight losing streak and he’s won only one of his last eight fights, which is a terrible record any way you look at it. However, the positive is that he’s never been knocked out in any of those fights and a few of them were close decision losses, so it’s not like he’s been getting blown out. The 37-year-old is basically a brawler who loves to give the fans a show, and going up against another striker in Davis that’s exactly what Spiritwolf is going to look to do here. Of his nine victories, six have come by way of knockout so Spiritwolf is definitely capable of finishing this fight with his fists, but if he gets taken down he could get submitted by Davis, as he’s shown problems with his submission defence in the past (three sub losses). Fight Prediction: This fight is likely going to stay on the feet and it’s probably going to be pretty exciting for as long as it lasts. Both men love to stand in the pocket and throw leather, and both guys can take a shot, but I feel as though Davis is a little more shop worn at this point. Spiritwolf is going to beat him up, cut him up, and do enough damage that the judges’ are swayed towards giving him the decision even though it will likely be a pretty close fight. Adam’s Pick: Spiritwolf via decision (click for latest MMA odds) Adam’s Recommended Play: I like Spiritwolf, but it’s hard to lay too much cash down on a guy with a recent record as poor as is. If I make a recommendation, it’s to play Spiritwolf in a round robin with the other two underdogs on the card, Marcin Held and Ryan Martinez. If you get two guys right you’ll make a little cash, and if you get all three you’ll win big, so on a card like this with slim betting opportunities that’s probably the way I’d go.
