World Series of Fighting 27 took place last night (Saturday, January 23, 2016) at The Grand Lobby at FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee, and it features some very violent and entertaining finishes and absolutely zero surprises. Overall from a betting perspective, four betting favorites won while zero underdogs won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. WSOF 27 Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, short notice replacement Luiz Firmino proved better correct by defeating lightweight UFC and Strikeforce veteran Caros Fodor via unanimous decision. Firmino repeatedly took Fodor down and was able to fend off submission and sweep attempts enough to walk away with a 29-28 victory on all three judges’ scorecards. Firmino came through as a -200 favorite (bet $200 to win $100) while Fodor lost at +185 (bet $100 to win $185). In a light heavyweight fight, talented prospect Shamil Gamzatov remained undefeated by putting away the always-dangerous Teddy Holder. Gamzatov connected with a heavy right hand which damaged Holder’s eye and followed up with more big strikes to put Holder down at the midway point of the first round. Gamzatov held serve as a -245 favorite while Holder lost at +225. In a non-competitive featherweight clash, Bryce Mitchell made quick work of Jorge Medina to remain undefeated. Mitchell quickly looked to take the fight to the floor and transitioned to Medina’s back, eventually securing a fight-ending choke just over a minute into the first round. Mitchell picked up the win as a hefty -525 favorite while Medina was defeated as a +450 dog. In a the opening bout of the main card, welterweight prospect Jaleel Willis remained undefeated in a violent scrap against a game Chauncey Foxworth. Willis pressed the action, opening up a big cut on Foxworth in the second round, but Foxworth held on until the end of the fight, losing a very bloody affair on all three judges’ scorecards. Willis came through as a -335 favorite, while Foxworth was defeated as a +305 underdog. WSOF 27 Underdogs That Won None.
