Invicta FC took place tonight (Saturday, January 16, 2016) in Costa Mesa, California, and overall it was an entertaining card highlighted by several finishes and paved the way for multiple title challengers down the road. Overall from a betting perspective, six betting favorites were victorious while one underdog wonbased on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Invicta FC 15 Favorites That Won In a featherweight title bout, Cris Cyborg defeated Daria Ibragimova via first-round knockout to retain the Invicta FC featherweight championship. Ibragimova was no match for Cyborg standing and repeatedly looked for single leg takedowns, but took a ton of punishment in the process, eventually getting dropped with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first round. Cyborg closed at a whopping -3000 (bet $3000 to win $100) while Ibragimova closed at +1300 (bet $100 to win $1300). In a strawweight title bout, champion Livia Souza retained her title in surprising fashion, scoring the first TKO victory of her career against DeAnna Bennett. Souza was looking for hard counters early as Bennett tried to pressure, and a body kick folded Bennett in two before an onslaught of ground strikes helped the Brazilian put a halt to the action less than two minutes into the first round. Souza held serve as a -160 betting favorite while Bennett was +120. In an atomweight fight, Amber Brown made quick work of late replacement Shino VanHoose. Brown opened with a heavy right hand then latched onto a guillotine choke when VanHoose looked for a takedown, eventually forcing the tap after tightening her full guard and squeezing her arms. Brown came through as a heavy -600 favorite while VanHoose lost at +400. In a strawweight bout, Mizuki Inoue handled a game Lacey Schuckman, outgrappling the wrestler and eventually wearing her down to pick up an armbar submission. Inoue landed heavy ground and pound throughout the contest and attempted about six armbars before eventually forcing the tap. Inoue was -500 while Rose-Clark was +334. In a strawweight contest, UFC veteran Angela Hill made a very impressive Invicta debut by throttling an overmatched Alida Gray via first round knockout. Gray couldn’t match Hill’s pace and output and a heavy right hand set up a huge flurry of punches and knees which ended the bout. Hill was victorious as a hefty -600 favorite while Gray couldn’t keep up as a +400 dog. In a featherweight bout, Megan Anderson weathered the early counterstriking storm from Amber Leibrock to pick up a third round TKO victory. Leibrock staggered Anderson in the first round, but wilted under the constant pressure from Anderson. Anderson was -165 while Leibrock was +125. Invicta FC 15 Underdogs That Won In 137 pound catchweight bout, Colleen Schneider utilized superior footwork and striking to do some serious damage to Raquel Pa’aluhi. Pa’aluhi looked for takedowns repeatedly but had trouble taking Schneider down and especially keeping her down as Schneider. Pa’aluhi’s left eye began to swell very badly and Schneider eventually walked away with a split decision. Schneider was +195 while Pa’aluhi was -275.
