The UFC added a high-profile featherweight matchup to its upcoming July 4th weekend card, as top-ranked Ricardo Lamas will take on crowd favorite Chan Sung “The Korean Zombie” Jung at UFC 162. The fight is expected to net the winner a title shot against the winner of August’s fight between UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and challenger Anthony Pettis. The Jung/Lamas fight could potentially be fight of the year. Jung (13-3) is coming off of three amazing victories over Dustin Poirier (submission), Mark Hominick (KO), and Leonard Garcia (submission) which put him on the map as a legit title threat. However, he has missed the past year with an injury and there’s no telling how he’ll look in his return. Lamas (13-2), meanwhile, is riding a four-fight win streak with victories over Erik Koch (TKO), Hatsu Hioki (decision), Cub Swanson (submission), and Matt Grice (TKO) that has catapulted him to the top of the UFC featherweight division. This should be an extremely fun fight. As far as the betting line goes, expect Lamas to open as a favorite, but with the massive public hype behind “The Korean Zombie,” the line could easily flip. Jason vs. Wilkinson Booked The UFC also added another matchup to the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 10 card, as TUF Brazil winner Rony Jason takes on Brit Mike Wilkinson in a featherweight bout. TATAME.com reported the matchup today, citing sources close to the bout. Jason (12-3) won TUF Brazil after defeating Godofredo Pepey at UFC 147, and then he went on to defeat Sam Sicilia by KO at UFC 153 to prove he wasn’t a fluke. Wilkinson (8-0), on the other hand, won his debut after defeating Brendan Loughnane in the finale at UFC on FX 6. However one thing to keep in mind is he is dropping to featherweight for this bout. The fight should be fairly competitive but there’s no question Jason will open us as a sizeable favorite, perhaps around the -250 mark. UFC 164 Booked For August The UFC today announced that the promotion will head to Milwaukee, Wis., on Aug. 31 for UFC 164. It will be the UFC’s second event in Milwaukee overall and the first time since August 2011, when UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle. It’s interesting that the UFC is headed to Milwaukee without Anthony Pettis, who fights Jose Aldo in August in Brazil. It would have made much more sense for the UFC to head there with Pettis headlining, but perhaps the UFC has something else up their sleeve for their return to the Brew City.
