UFC on Fox 17 Finale took place tonight (Saturday, December 19, 2015) at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida and was headlined by a lightweight title bout between champion Rafael dos Anjos and challenger Donald Cerrone. Overall from a betting perspective, five favorites won while seven underdogs came through with ine no contest according to the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos proved his victory over Donald Cerrone was not a fluke by destroying Cowboy in the first round via TKO. In a lightweight contest, Nik Lentz made a victorious return to the division, picking up a split decision against a game Danny Castillo. Lents was -135 while Castillo waMar +125 dog. In a welterweight bout, Kamaru Usman utilized his superior wrestling to win a decision against Leon Edwards. Hassan was a -245 favirite while Edwards was +225. In a welterweight bout, Vicente Luque earned his revenge against Hayder Hassan. Luque hurt Hassan standing then put him away with a submission in the first round. Luque held serve as a -125 favorite while Hassan was a +115 dog. In the opening bout of the evening, heavyweights Francis Ngannou and Luiz Henrique made their UFC debuts. Henrique won the first round with top control but Ngannou put him away with a brutal second round uppercut to score a viscous knockout. Ngannou was victorious as a -135 favorite while Henrique was +125. Underdogs That Won In the heavyweight division, Alistair Overeem shocked the world by knocking out former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in the second round. Overeem came through as the +205 underdog, while did Santos failed to cash as the -225 favorite. In a lightweight bout, Nate Diaz return to action after a year away to defeat Michael Johnson. Johnson was a hefty favorite but Diaz got the better of him in the stand up exchanges and was the better ground fighter to win a 29-28 decision across the board. Diaz was a monster +315 underdog while Johnson was defeated as a -345 favorite. In the first bout on the main card strawweight Rando Marcos was defeated by Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Kowalkiewicz worked good underhooks in the clinch and got the better of the stand-up to earn a very close decision. Kowalkiewicz was a +150 dog while Markos couldn’t win as a -160 favorite. In the preliminary card main event lightweight Charles Oliveira surprisingly submitted Miles Jury in a in the first round. Oliveira got it to the ground and Jury couldn’t shake loose. Oliveira was a +150 underdog while Jury was -160. In a middlewight fight, Nate Marquardt stayed relevant by knocking out CB Dollaway early in the second round. Marquardt came through as a huge +375 underdog while Dollaway disappointed at -420. In a women’s bantanweight fight, Sarah Kaufman could not handle UFC newcomer Valentina Shevchenko, who did enough to win the first two rounds and take a split decision. Shevchenko looked great as a slight +100 dog while Kaufman couldn’t come back as a -110 favorite. In a middleweight fight, Tamdan McCrory returned from nearly six years away from the Octagon to score a huge upset finish against Josh Samman. McCrory’s ground game and submission threats were the difference here as he took over in the second round and then choked Samman out in the third via triangle. McCrory was +190 while Samman was -210. No Contests In a featherweight bout, weigh-in light saber duelists Cole Miller and Jim Alers had their bout end in disappointment after an inadvertent eye poke in the second round forced the bout to an early end via no contest. Both fighters closed at dead even -105.
