ONE Championship’s Yang Jian Bing dies after weight cut Horrible news out of the Philippines that 21-year old flyweight fighter Yang Jian Bing has died after his weight cut for today’s ONE Championship: Spirit of Champions event. ONE Championship confirmed the news this morning in an official statement but didn’t make mention of his weight cut. “The ONE Championship (ONE) family suffered a tragic loss when Chinese flyweight Yang Jian Bing passed away on 11 December 2015 at 12.06 PM due to cardiopulmonary failure. The formal hospital medical reports and procedures are still being carried out. He was 21 years old. Yang, a native of China was hospitalized at the San Juan De Dios Hospital in Pasay, Philippines, after a sudden collapse on the morning of 10 December 2015. At the hospital, Yang received the best medical care possible while ONE officials continuously updated his family directly from his hospital bedside. CEO of ONE Championship, Victor Cui said, “There is nothing more profoundly tragic and sad than when a member of the ONE Championship family, current or past, passes away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Yang Jian Bing. We will work closely with the family and offer all the support they need in any way we can during this very difficult time.” Cui added, “I want to thank all sports fans around the world for their concern, thoughts and prayers. At this time, we appreciate everyone respecting the Yang family’s privacy as they mourn the loss of their beloved son and brother.” Bing (5-1), was coming off the first defeat of his career – a split-decision loss to Ze Wu in a ONE Championship tournament in June – and was scheduled to fight Geje Eustaquio (6-4) at today’s “Spirit of Champions” event in the Philippines. He never officially weighed in for the event as officials cancelled the bout when Yang struggled to make weight prior to Thursday’s weigh-ins. Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez championship rematch confirmed for UFC 196 UFC Total spoke with UFC President Dana White who confirmed that the rematch between Werdum vs. Velasquez will take place at UFC 196. Werdum (20-5-1) defeated the former champion Velasquez back in June at UFC 188 by a third round submission victory. Velasquez (13-2) suffered just second loss of his career and some felt that his extended layoff due to injury was a factor in that matchup. UFC 196 takes place Feb. 6 in Las Vegas and so far this is the only matchup confirmed for the card. Also no word on what facility will host this event. Lobov faces Hall, not Rogers at TUF 22 Finale tonight Despite defeating Marcin Wrzosek in the semifinals, Saul Rogers will not be fighting in the TUF 22 tournament final. Rogers (10-1) gave inaccurate information on his U.S. visa application, and is now unable to enter the country. Instead Ryan Hall – the man Rogers defeated in the quarter-finals was tabbed as the replacement fighter against Artem Lobov in the tournament championship this evening. Hall (4-1) is currently riding a four-fight win streak since losing his professional debut back in 2006. Lobov (11-10- 1) meanwhile knocked out Julian Erosa on the show to earn his spot in the finals. Prior to the show, Lobov was 2-2-1 NC in his last five fights.
