There has been all sorts of line movement on this card from top to bottom. Benson Henderson saw some public action and went from a -210 to -250 betting favorite against Jorge Masvidal (+160 to +230) in the main event of the evening, but it was veteran Dong Hyun Kim in the co-main event against Dominic Waters (+325 to +600) who the public has really backed with their wallets, driving him from an already heavy -475 favorite to his current price of -750. For UFC Fight Night 79 in Seoul, “Stun Gun” is everybody’s favorite parlay piece, so buyer beware. Another fighter who has seen strong public support is Leo Kuntz, who travels to enemy territory to get an upset win over Tae Hyun Bang (-180 to +125). Kuntz opened as a +145 betting underdog, but public action has flipped the lines, where he is now the favorite to win at -135. I assume people think he will have a massive advantage on the mat and see wrestling as a clear path to victory for Kuntz. Another underdog on the evening’s preliminary card who has gotten some love from the public is Mike de la Torre, who opened as a +115 underdog but now is available at 5dimes at the pick’em price of -105 against Yul Chul Nam (-155 to -105). I can’t make sense of why people are betting de la Torre here, as I think Nam is the better fighter and has a greater chance of getting his hand raised. Finally, China’s Yao Zhikui opened as a +190 betting underdog but has been wagered down to +145 thanks to public support. My guess is that people think his forward pressure and volume of strikes will earn him a victory against Fredy Serrano (-270 to -155) on the judges’ scorecards. Lots of line movement on this fight card; some heavy and some light, some I agree with, but mostly ones I disagree with. I am very interested in seeing if betters made the right move by jumping on these dogs.
