UFC Fight Night 79 Date: November 28, 2015 Arena: Olympic Gymnastics Arena City: Seoul, South Korea The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads to Seoul, South Korea for the first time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 79: Henderson vs Masvidal. The event will feature 11 bouts aired in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass, starting with preliminary action at 5am ET and following with the main card at 8pm ET. If interested in wagering on these plays, or any plays for this fight card, all betting lines will be made available at Several Bookmakerss. Here are my preliminary card plays: Middleweight bout: Dongi Yang (+115) vs Jake Collier (-135) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think Collier is the superior mixed martial artist heading into this middleweight match-up and I see him getting the better of the Korean on the feet and on the mat, if he finds success in getting the fight there. I expect this fight to play out on the feet, where I see Collier dictating Octagon control and putting the pressure on Yang. I think the higher volume of strikes for Collier will be the difference when this fight hits the judges’ scorecards for a decision and he gets his hand raised, making it two in a row for himself inside the Octagon. Yang is durable and has a solid chin, having never been finished in his professional mixed martial arts career, so I don’t expect Collier to put him away, but I would not be surprised if he does. Yang is returning to the Octagon after being released from the promotion and going 2-0 on the regional circuit, and I don’t think he is going to have a very pleasant welcome. Should he come out on the losing end in a poor performance, this could be a “one and done” deal for the Korean. I think Collier hould be a -230 betting favorite heading into this middleweight battle, so I like him for a play at his current asking price of -135. Gabe’s Call: Collier by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Collier (-135) 4.05u to win 3u Featherweight bout: Mike de la Torre (+100) vs Yui Chul Nam (-120) Gabe’s Thoughts: To put it simply, I think this fight takes place on the feet and Nam ultimately puts de la Torre away with strikes. He has the better chin of the two and I think he can take de la Torre’s shots, and I don’t think de la Torre can take his. However, if he surprises me and is able to, I think Nam will end up taking a unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards. I see a lot of value in Nam at his current offering price of -120, as I think he should be a -210 betting favorite heading into this featherweight affair. Gabe’s Call: Nam by T/KO (punches, 3:02 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Nam (-120) 3.6u to win 3u
