UFC Fight Night 78 came and went, leaving us with a pair of new TUF: Latin America winners and some exciting action. The night of scraps is now behind us, so let’s take a look which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see in action inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Scott Jorgensen Jorgensen went into last night’s UFC Fight Night 78 bantamweight bout against Alejandro Perez with the goal of getting his hand raised and setting the record for most bantamweight wins under he Zuffa banner. Unfortunately, he suffered a leg injury in the first round and succumbed to a TKO in the second, as he was unable to continue fighting. The loss puts the UFC/WEC veteran on a three fight losing streak now and makes him 2-8 for his last 10. Many expected he would be released following his last loss, which came against Manny Gamburyan on the judges’ scorecards back in July, and were surprised to see him get another fight. I was one of those people. I expected him to be released after his last fight, and now, I think he will definitely receive his walking papers. I would not be surprised to see him show up in Bellator or WSOF, but I think the wise move for “Young Guns” right now would to to hang up the gloves for good. His best days are certainly behind him and he has nothing to prove. Cesar Arzamendia & Vernon Ramos Arzamendia and Ramos each came up short in their The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 tournaments and were given a shot on this card. Arzamendia, a lightweight, and Ramos, a welterewight, were each the betting favorites heading into their Octagon debuts, and they were both knocked out in the very first round of action; Ramos in only 30 seconds. Fighters coming off The Ultimate Fighter who lost in the tournament sometimes get one shot in the UFC, and when they come up short, they get sent packing. I think for Arzamendia and Ramos, it will likely be one of those “one and done” situations. It is my guess that we have seen the last of these fighters inside the Octagon.
