MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Titan FC lightweight champion Rick Hawn, who announced his retirement last week following his championship victory over Pat Healy at Titan FC 35 last month (September 19, 2015).
The former US Judo Olympian retires with a 21-4 career record, having won a Bellator tournament and picked up a Titan FC championship and he reflected on his decision to call it a career:
“It was a long time coming. Several reasons, one, I’m not a young kid anymore. It’s hard. It’s my second career in combat sports. It just weighs on you physically. Mentally, I’m just like, ‘Man, do I want to keep doing this?’ It’s hard. That’s one of the reasons. Another reason, financially it doesn’t make much sense. I need something more secure. For me, fighting doesn’t pay the bills right now like I used to. It’s a dangerous job and if I ever got hurt like I’ve done in the past, I can’t fight, can’t work. I need something a little more long term especially at my age.”
