In a return to the Bellator of old, the promotion held an event for the second straight week this past evening (Friday, September 25, 2015) for Bellator 143, which was headlined by a bantamweight match-up between former multi-division champion Joe Warren versus WEC vet LC Davis. Because the Ryan Couture fight was cancelled when his opponent missed weight by a whopping 16 pounds, there were seven lined fights on the card. Overall, on the night betting favorite were victorious while underdogs picked up wins based on Several Bookmakers‘s closing odds. Bellator 143 Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, former Bellator bantamweight and featherweight champion Joe Warren utilized his wrestling to grind out an ugly but dominant decision victory over LC Davis. Davis just had no answer for Warren’s top notch wrestling, although Warren wasn’t able to pick up a finish. Davis was game, but just couldn’t stay upright for extended periods of time. Warren was victorious at -150 (Bet $150 to win $100) while Davis lost every round as a +140 (Bet $100 to win $140) underdog. In a middleweight battle, Joey Beltran looked like he might have been on his way to an ugly, grinding win over former Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove, but Grove responded with a triumphant third round knockout with a nasty right hand at the midway point of the frame. Grove bounced back as a -150 favorite while Beltran was a +130 dog. In a featherweight clash, Henry Corrales and Emmanuel Sanchez put on a competitive bout, but it was Sanchez who was able to slightly get the better of Corrales over the course of three rounds, nearly finishing him at the end of the second frame. Shockingly, one of the judges gave all three rounds to Corrales, but the other two judges saw reason and awarded Sanchez the victory via split decision. Sanchez pulled through as a -170 betting favorite while Corrales was +160. In a heavyweight bout, UFC veteran Vinicius “Spartan” Queiros was able to control Ewerton Teixeira before eventually submitting him with an arm triangle choke with one minute remaining in the second round. Queiros closed at -230 while Teixeira was +210. In a bantamweight bout, Darrion Caldwell made quick work of veteran wrestler Shawn Bunch, submitting him via rear naked choke at the midway point of the first round. Caldwell was a whopping -600 betting favorite while Bunch came up short as a +450 dog. In a featherweight contest on the preliminary card, John Teixeira barely squeaked by Gleristone Santos via close split decision. Teixeira was a -130 betting favorite while Santos was a +110 dog. Bellator 143 Underdogs that Won In a heavyweight clash, Dan Charles pulled off a shocker by halting Chase Gormley’s four-fight winning streak with an impressive second round knockout against the UFC veteran. Charles won despite being a hefty +265 underdog while Gormley was upset as a -325 favorite.
