The mixed martial arts (MMA) fantasy website Kountermove is back with another exclusive game for MMAOddsBreaker.com readers. If you’re not familiar with how the site works, here’s a brief snippet from the site owners, themselves.
Kountermove brings the traditional fantasy format to MMA. Accumulation of points and a salary cap make fantasy MMA more intriguing than your basic “pick ’em” contest. With other industry pros on the site it is the place to be if you know your MMA. The game is fairly simple on its face, games are played over a single night during one event. Prior to the event, players get a total of $25,000 fantasy dollars to pick five fighters for your team. Each fighter is given a specific salary by Kountermove. Kountermove assigns a value for each fighter based on how we believe the fight will go. Points are scored if a fighter scores a finish, wins a round, lands significant strikes, knocks an opponent down, scores takedowns, secures dominant positions or attempts submissions. The more dominant your fighters’performance, the more points you’re going to score. If you score more points than your opponents, then you win the money.

If you’re interested in a few pointers on potential fighters to pick, I’ll be offering my analysis and potential picks to click. In case you have your doubts, I have a very nice track record of success with the website, having won plenty since its inception. Before I get to my picks, remember that to get the best value out of your team, you have to try to get an average of $5000 per fighter with your team of five fighters and your $25,000 salary cap. That means if you want to pick a big favorite from UFC 191 like Demetrious Johnson ($5800) you have to balance it out by picking some underdogs that you think will perform above and beyond. Sometimes it’s not worth it to pick the overwhelming favorite. Without further ado, here are some of the picks that stand out for me: Paul Felder ($5200): Paul Felder is a very dangerous stand-up artist with some unorthodox attacks and a diverse array of strikes on the feet. I expect him to get the better of Ross Pearson, who has more experience than Felder, but also has more wear and tear and a worse chin. Felder also will have a height and reach advantage in this fight. I expect Pearson to have trouble dealing with Felder’s range, especially his kicks. I think this fight will take place on the feet for the entire duration and it will end in knockout, most likely with Pearson on the receiving end. Underdog Pick of the Night Raquel Pennington ($4200): The last time Raquel Pennington fought Jessica Andrade, she actually outstruck the wily Brazilian. Her downfall was the fact that she got taken down a few times and had her guard passed. I’m not saying she’s going to win, but this fight will likely go all three rounds and Pennington should be competitive in this rematch. The fact that she’s incredibly cheap at $4200 will give you the breathing room to add a hefty favorite to your team like Demetrious Johnson or Paige VanZant. If you want either of those fighters, this is the underdog to pick. Fighter to Avoid Tiago Trator ($4700): I really thought Tiago Trator was much better than he actually is. The veteran featherweight looked atrocious in his last bought, getting caught repeatedly by Mike De La Torre’s left hand and eventually knocked out in the first round. Trator is dangerous in the clinch, has a decent submission game and possesses some tough kicks, but I think he’ll be in trouble against Clay Collard’s boxing-centric pressure attack on the feet. Trator could either get knocked out or just outworked over the course of three rounds here so I say keep him off your teams.
