UFC Fight Night 73 took place last night (August 8, 2015) at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Overall the card featured a number of exciting finishes but unfortunately all of that was overshadowed by a controversial decision in the evenings co-main event. From a betting perspective, nine favorites and four underdogs won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. UFC Fight Night 73 Favorites That Won In a middleweight bout, Derek Brunson defeated Sam Alvey via TKO (punches). From the opening bell Brunson was not afraid to stand and trade with Alvey. His strategy paid off as he became the first person to knockout Sam Alvey in his 32-fight career. Brunson cashes at -365 while Alvey closed at +328 as the dog. In a heavyweight bout, Jared Rosholt defeated Timothy Johnson via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3). Rosholt used his high-level wrestling to score takedowns throughout the three round fight. Johnson rocked Rosholt in the third round but it was too little too late. Rosholt closed at -235 with Johnson closing at +215. In a catchweight bout (Borg missed weight), Ray Borg defeated Geane Herrera via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3). Despite Herrera landing an elbow in the 3rd which caused Borg to bleed profusely, the 22-year old was able to control the fight with his wrestling. Borg closed as the -420 favorite while Herrera lost as the +375 underdog. In a middleweight bout, Uriah Hall defeated Oluwale Bamgbose via TKO (punches). Hall stalked his opponent from the opening stanza and finished the UFC newcomer at 2:32 of the first round. Hall came through as the -310 favorite while Bamgbose lost as the underdog at +280. In a middleweight bout, Chris Camozzi defeated Tom Watson via unanimous decision (29-27 x 2, 30-27). Camozzi controlled Watson for the full three rounds. Referee John McCarthy took a point away from Watson in the 2nd for a. Camozzi closed as the -130 favorite, while Watson closed as the +120 underdog. In a flyweight bout, Dustin Ortiz defeated Willie Gates via TKO (punches). Ortiz dominated the fight from the opening bell and used his superior wrestling to land a takedown in the third. From there planted several power shots for the TKO win. Ortiz cashed as the -460 favorite while Gates lost as the +410 underdog. In a light heavyweight bout, Jonathan Wilson defeated Chris Dempsey via KO (punches). Wilson landed a straight left, followed by hammer fists to earn the victory in just 50 seconds. Wilson closed at -120 while Dempsey closed at +110. In a bantamweight bout, Marlon Vera defeated Roman Salazar via second-round Submission (armbar). After an uneventful first round, Salazar got the fight to the mat in the 2nd but it would be Vera scrambling out and sinking in the armbar. Vera closed at -125 favorite while Salazar was the +100 underdog. In a lightweight bout, Scott Holtzman defeated Anthony Christodoulou via third-round Submission (Rear-Naked choke). Holtzman was in control the majority of the contest and eventually landed a trip takedown in the third, followed by the rear-naked choke finish. Holtzman closed at -1050 while Christodoulou lost as a +850 dog. UFC Fight Night 71 Underdogs That Won In a light heavyweight bout in the main event, Glover Teixeira defeated Ovince St. Preux via technical submission (rear-naked choke). Teixeira survived a flurry in the first from St. Preux and used his takedowns to dominate the fight. In the third he was able to secure the fight-ending submission to snap his two-fight skid. Teixeira cashes as a +125 underdog while St-Preux lost as a -135 favorite. In a lightweight bout in the co-main event, Beneil Dariush defeated Michael Johnson via split decision (29-28 x 2). Johnson appeared to get the better of the exchanges on the feet, but the judges didn’t agree awarding Dariush the victory. Dariush cashed as the +125 underdog while Johnson loses as the -135 favorite. In a woman’s bantamweight bout, Amanda Nunes defeated Sara McMann via submission (rear-naked choke). Nunes landed a big right hand which send McMann to the canvas and it was only a matter of time before she sunk in the fight ending submission. Nunes cashed as a +230 underdog while McMann loses as the favorite at -250. In a bantamweight bout, Frankie Saenz defeated Sirwan Kakai via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 30-27). Sanez consistent pressure was the difference over the three round affair as he earned his seventh straight win. Saenz cashed as the +110 underdog, while Kakai loses as a -125 favorite.
