After a very exciting weekend of fights which showcased UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey’s tremendous starpower, the promotion announced an upcoming main event for a future Fight Night show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dan Henderson vs Vitor Belfort 3, UFC Fight Night, November 7th These men met for the first time at Pride 32 nearly nine years ago, where Henderson was able to outwork Belfort en route to a unanimous decision victory in Japan. Their rematch nearly two years ago at UFC Fight Night 32 did not go nearly as well for the aging Henderson, as he was clipped by a head kick just 77 seconds into the fight and put away via technical knockout. That second meeting took place in the light heavyweight division, and both men have since dropped back down to middleweight. Henderson has gone 2-2 in the UFC since that fight, scoring thunderous knockouts of Shogun Rua and Tim Boetsch while losing to Daniel Cormier and Gegard Mousasi. Belfort, on the other hand, has only fought once, losing earlier this year to Chris Weidman via first round TKO due to ground and pound. After Henderson’s recent victory over Boetsch, he started clamoring for a bunch of rematches against men who had defeated him in the UFC. His “revenge” tour is now officially open for business and it’ll begin with Belfort. I would expect Belfort to be a pretty sizable favorite in this fight considering how quickly he finished Henderson the last time they competed. Henderson’s once legendary chin has shown some serious cracks as of late. In fights where he was once able to quickly recover, he’s now having more and more trouble bouncing back from adversity. That being said, his right hand will always be dangerous no matter how old he gets.
