UFC 190 took place last night (August 1, 2015) at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and overall the card was decent, although it was capped off by another thrilling and quick title fight. Overall from a betting perspective, nine favorites and four underdogs won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. UFC 190 Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, Ronda Rousey did what she always does and she defended her UFC women’s bantamweight title against Bethe Correia in quick and brutal fashion. Rousey avoided taking Correia to the canvas, instead choosing to stand and bang with her and it paid off as she hurt the Brazilian against the fence and then knocked her out cold with a right hand that faceplanted Correia. Rousey remained undefeated as a massive -1500 (Bet $1500 to win $100) favorite while Correia lost as an underdog at +1200 (Bet $100 to win $1200). In a light heavyweight bout, Shogun Rua had to dig into his bag of tricks to defeat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in a rematch 10 years in the making back from their Pride days. Nogueira had Rua in all sorts of trouble in the first round but couldn’t knock him out. Instead, Shogun scored a takedown in the second and outworked Nogueira for the remainder of the fight to win the final two rounds and the decision. Shogun bounced back at -220 while Nogueira came up short as a+200 underdog. In a lightweight bout, Glaico Franca controlled Fernando Bruno, outstriking the veteran and outgrappling the smaller fighter. Bruno did his best to utilize his wrestling but Franca was able to use his long frame well and forced a very late tap to claim the lightweight TUF Brazil season 4 crown. Franca won at -200 while Bruno closed at +185. In the heavyweight division, Stephan Struve forced Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira into retirement with a solid effort utilizing a superior jab, combinations and some decent kicks. Nogueira repeatedly tried to wade inside with hooks and clinch, but Struve refused to be taken down for any extended period of time and he hurt Nogueira multiple times although he was unable to score a finish. In the end, all three judges awarded Struve a 30-27 unanimous decision. Struve held serve as a -170 favorite while Nogueira lost as a +160 dog. In a women’s strawweight bout, Claudia Gadelha looked tremendous for three full rounds against UFC newcomer Jessica Aguilar. Gadelha got the better of the stand-up exchanges with crisper and more powerful striking and she closed each round with a powerful takedown to win them all and take a unanimous decision victory. Gadelha won as a -430 betting favorite while Aguilar came up short at +380. In a welterweight bout, Demian Maia took Neil Magny to jiu-jitsu school, repeatedly taking the TUF veteran down and completely dominating him on the canvas. Eventually, Maia was simply too much for Magny as he locked on a chinlock/rear naked choke and forced the American to tap to end his seven fight win streak. Maia scored an impressive finish as a -230 favorite while Magny was smashed as a +210 underdog. In a light heavyweight contest, Patrick Cummins put on a wrestling clinic against Rafael Feijao. Feijao opened up some nasty cuts on Cummins face, but Cummins would not be denied, repeatedly taking Feijao down and eventually overwhelming him with a barrage of third round elbows to earn a referee stoppage. Cummins was victorious at -185 while Feijao was finished as a +170 dog. In the welterweight division, Warlley Alves returned to form with a very impressive performance against Nordine Taleb. Alves got the better of Taleb on the feet and on the canvas, eventually forcing the Tristar product to tap out to a guillotine choke in the second round. Alves remained unbeaten as a -325 favorite while Taleb was finished at +295. In the opening bout of the FS1 prelims, bantamweights Iuri Alcantara and Leandro Issa put on a back and forth battle. Issa landed the first blow with a dominant first round that featured a lot of top control and a few submission attempts. Issa couldn’t take Alcantara down as he faded down the stretch, however, and either found himself on bottom in scrambles or was outstruck on the feet for the remainder of the contest. Alcantara was victorious at -240 and Issa was lost as a +220 underdog. UFC 190 Underdogs that Won In the bantamweight division, Reginaldo Vieira pulled off a shocker against Dileno Lopes, landing some superior strikes early and hanging on late with some impressive ground and pound to win TUF Brazil season 4. Vieira was a massive underdog at +375 while Lopes lost at -420. In a heavyweight contest, Antonio Silva took Soa Palelei’s best shot and came back firing on all cylinders. Palelei scored a takedown in the first round but couldn’t put “Bigfoot” away, and Silva made him pay with a huge barrage of strikes against the fence to put him down. Silva was victorious as a +160 underdog while Palelei couldn’t deliver as a -170 favorite. In the middleweight division, Vitor Miranda handled Clint Hester’s best shot, reversing a takedown attempt to score a second round TKO via ground and pound. Miranda pulled off the upset as a +125 underdog while Hester couldn’t get anything going as a -135 favorite. In the first fight of the evening, bantamweights Guido Cannetti and Hugo Viana squared off. Cannetti showcased some serious improvements from the TUF Latin America Finale by avoiding Viana’s puzzling repeated takedown attempts and doing enough to walk away with a surprise unanimous decision victory. Cannetti scored the first upset of the evening as a +480 underdog while Viana failed at -570.
