UFC president Dana White was in Ireland today accepting an award, and while there he broke some big news. According to the Twitter account of Sean Sheehan, who was in attendance, White announced that UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will take on Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the main event of UFC 160, which takes place May 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. As well, White announced that the co-main event will be none other than Junior dos Santos taking on arch rival Alistair Overeem. These are both big fights that the sportsbooks will get plenty of action on. After the way he beat he him in their first fight at UFC 146, expect Velasquez to open at 4-to-1 over “Bigfoot,” while dos Santos will be a slight-to-moderate favorite over Overeem. Mendes vs. Guida Set For UFC on FOX 7 The UFC added another fight to it’s upcoming UFC on FOX 7 card, and it’s a matchup between two of the finest featherweights on the planet as Chad Mendes takes on Clay Guida. This is an excellent fight between two of the top wrestlers in the division and the winner will be in prime position to earn a title shot. Expect Mendes to open as a 3-to-1 favorite over Guida, who could possibly have some value as an underdog April 20 in San Jose, Calif. UFC Signs McMann, Davis The UFC announced today that female fighters Sara McMann and Alexis Davis have signed contracts and both women are expected to debut on a fight card in in the coming months. McMann and Davis are both ranked in the top 10 and either could theoretically be Ronda Rousey’s next challenge, although it’s possible the UFC matches them up against one another for their UFC debuts. The UFC now has six women’s fighters, and all weigh 135 pounds: Rousey, Liz Carmouche, McMann, Davis, Cat Zingano, and Miesha Tate. Brandao-Garza Added to UFC Sweden II The UFC added a new bout to it’s upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 9 card, and it’s a clash of featherweights coming off wins as TUF winner Diego Brandao takes on Pablo Garza. These are two very exciting 145 pounders and this is one of the frontrunners for “Fight of the Night” at UFC Sweden II, which is headlined by Alexander Gustafsson vs. Gegard Mousasi this April 6 in Stockholm.
