At the beginning of every month on MMAOddsBreaker, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article I have a recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of June. June 4th – KOTC: Awakening (Worley, Idaho) Trevor Prangley vs. Mike Hayes (DRAW) UFC veteran Prangley earns the first draw of his career against Hayes, who replaced an injured D.J. Linderman in this bout. June 5th – RFA 26 (Broomfield, Colorado) Gilbert Smith def. Ben Smith via Submission (Armlock) at 3:27, RD 3 TUF 17 veteran Gilbert Smith has now won three of his last four fights and snapped Ben Smith’s six fight win streak. Since his UFC release in 2013, Smith has now gone 6-2. June 6th – EFC Africa 40 (Gauteng, South Africa) Cyril Asker def. Ruan Potts via TKO (Retirement) at 5:00, RD. 1 Potts has now lost four straight fights while Asker has now won four straight. June 6th – FEFoMP: Mayor’s Cup 2015 (Khabarovsk, Russia) Evgeny Erokhin def. Jeff Monson via TKO (Punches) at 4:43, RD.2 UFC veteran Monson has now lost three straight fights. Erokin has now won five straight fights all my knockout. June 6th – Ring of Combat 51 (Atlantic City, New Jersey) Nick Pace (6-3-0) vs. Robert Walker III (4-3-0) (CANCELLED) This bout was cancelled according to Tapology. June 11th – Fight Nights: Battle 19 ( Moscow, Russia) Vladimir Mineev def. Xavier Foupa-Pokam via TKO (Punches) at 4:32, RD. 1 Mineev earns his fifth straight win by stoppage over the UFC veteran. With the loss, Foupa-Pokam had his three fight win streak snapped. June 12th – CES 29 (Lincoln, Rhode Island) Dominique Steele def. Chuck O’Neil via Unanimous Decision Steele earned the CES welterweight title and has now won seven of his last eight bouts. He also handed the TUF 13 competitor hist first loss in his last four fights. Matt Bessette def. Khama Worthy via TKO (Punches) at 2:42, RD. 2 Bessette earned his second straight victory while Worthy has now lost two in a row. Jon Manley (9-2-0) vs. Matt MacGrath (16-8-0) (CANCELLED) Bout was cancelled due to an injury to Manley. June 13th – Phoenix Fight Night (Bournemouth, England) Andre Winner (20-8-2) vs. Charlie Leary (8-7-0) (CANCELLED) Bout was cancelled due to an injury to Leary. June 13th – Battle in Grozny 3 (Grozny, Russia) Shamil Zavurov def. Hermes Franca via Knockout (Punch) at 0:42, RD.1 Disgraced former UFC fighter Franca has now lost three in a row, while Zavurov has won six straight. Franca fought for just the second time since 2011 after he was in jail for the two years after being charged with sexual abuse charges on a minor. June 15th – Real Xtreme Fighting 18 (Romania) Jeff Monson (55-22-1) vs. Alexandru Lungu (10-3-0) (CANCELLED) Monson was not cleared medically because of his loss earlier in the month to Evgeny Erokhin. June 19th – Havoc FC 9 (Red Deer, Alberta) Nick Ring (13-3-0) vs. Alfonso Gonzales (7-1-0) (CANCELLED) Havoc FC cancelled the bout due to scheduling issues. June 19th – MCC 59: Howser vs. O’Brien (Des Moines, Iowa) Eric Howser def. T.J. O’Brien via Knockout (Punch) 0:12, RD. 1 Howser earned his eighth straight victory while former UFC fighter O’Brien has his two-fight win streak snapped. Elvis Mutapcic def. Sean Huffman via TKO WSOF veteran Mutapcic earned his second win in a row, while Huffman has now lost 14 in a row! Tim Gorman def. Justin Morrison via Submission (Rear-naked choke) in RD. 2 In his first fight since his UFC release, Gorman snapped his two fight losing streak and also handed Morrison his first loss in his last four bouts. June 20th – NLFC 2 (Greenville, North Carolina) Darrill Schoonover def. Lew Polley via Split Decision TUF 10 contestant Schoonover hands the TUF 13 assistant Polley his third loss in a row. While the victory for Schoonover snaps his two-fight losing streak. June 20th – Odyssey FIghts: Round One: Series of Championships (Richmond, Virginia, United States) Steve Montgomery (8-2-0) vs. Anthony Lemon (3-9-0) (CANCELLED) TUF 22 contestant Montgomery was pulled from this fight to compete on the UFC Fight Night 70 card against Tony Sims, which he lost via first round knockout. June 21st – Vale Tudo: VTJ In Osaka (Osaka, Japan) Yoshiro Maeda def. Kentaro Watanabe via Unanimous Decision DREAM veteran Maeda has now earned back to back wins for the first time since 2012, while Watanabe has now lost three straight fights. June 26th – Hard Knocks 44 (Calgary, Alberta) Cory Devela def. Nick Ring via Unanimous Decision Former UFC fighter Ring has now lost three of his last four fights. While the American Devela has now won four of his last five fights. June 26th – Legacy Fighting Championship 42 (Lake Charles, Lousiana) Josh Quayhagen def. Anthony Njokuani via Submission (Armbar) at 1:28, RD. 3 Njokuani has now lost two in a row since his UFC release and four of his last five bouts. Quayhagen meanwhile snapped his two fight losing streak. Carina Damm (22-12-0) vs. Valentina Shevchenko (9-1-0) (CANCELLED) Bout cancelled due to an injuy to Damm. June 27th – Macto Championships (Buckinghamshire, England) Nick Osipczak def. Kyle Redfearn via Submission (Choke) at 2:04, RD. 1 TUF 9 veteran Osipczak earns his first victory in five years and subsequently snapped his three fight losing streak. With the loss, Redfearn has now lost two straight. June 27th – Rebel FC 3 (Shandong, China) Kleber Koike Erbst def. Miguel Torres via Submission, RD. 2 Former WEC bantamweight champion Torres has now lost two straight fights via finish. He was originally slated to fight Will Chope, however the former UFC fighter missed weight and was unable to compete. Erbst extended his winning streak to 14-straight. Joe Ray def. Eric Michael Fought via Unanimous Decision Ray was initially slated to fight UFC veteran Paulo Thiago, however the Brazillian had to bow out due to injury. Instead Ray earned his eight win in his last nine fights by taking out fellow American Fought.
