It was an absolutely insane night in MMA betting, as five underdogs cashed while only six favorites came through, leaving many bettors frustrated. If you managed to bet any of the dogs congrats on your winnings, but those who laid the juice tonight are hurting due to a combination of upsets, bad judges, and overall craziness. UFC BETTING FAVORITES THAT WON On the main card, Diego Sanchez won a robbery split decision over Takanori Gomi that upset UFC president Dana White, who tweeted that he strongly disagreed with the judges’ call. Although Sanchez was fairly aggressive throughout the fight, it appeared as though Gomi landed the clear punches throughout it and that he was robbed of a deserving win. Either way, Sanchez closed as a -231 favorite (bet $231 to win $100) while Gomi was a +211 underdog (bet $100 to win $211). Also on the main card, Dong Hyun Kim absolutely dominated Siyar Bahadurzada on the ground for three rounds to win a clear-cut unanimous decision, 30-27 on all judges’ cards. Bahadurzada was completely neutralized in the standup by Kim, who took the fight to the floor at will, where he absolutely smothered “The Great.” Kim closed as a -170 favorite, while Bahadurzada was a +160 dog. On the preliminary card, Brad Tavares outpointed Riki Fukuda in a competitive middleweight affair to take home a decision. Although Fukuda had his moments in the fight with his takedowns and wrestling, it was Tavares’ striking that was on display in the bout as he went on to win an easy decision. Tavares closed at -120, while Fukuda closed as a +110 dog. Also on the preliminary card, Takeya Mizugaki won a close split decision over Bryan Caraway to finally earn a two-fight winning streak in the UFC. It was a very smart performance by Mizugaki, who used his boxing and wrestling skills to outpoint Caraway in the judges’ eyes, although Caraway definitely had his moments in the grappling department. Mizugaki was a -215 favorite, while Caraway was a +195 underdog. In another prelim, Kazuki Tokudome defeated Cristiano Marcello via unanimous decision to pick up his first UFC win. If you listened to the MMA Oddscast you would have known that Marcello was a major fade, so if you decided to listen to our advice and pick Tokudome congrats. Tokudome closed as a -115 favorite, while Marcello was a +105 dog. And in the first fight of the evening, Korean prospect Hyun Gyu Lim defeated Brazilian Marcelo Guimaraes via second-round knockout to earn a win in his UFC debut. Lim closed as a -270 fav, while Guimaraes was a +248 dog. UFC BETTING UNDERDOGS THAT WON In the main event of the evening, Wanderlei Silva knocked out Brian Stann in the second round in what was a major upset. The fight went back-and-forth in the first round but in the second Silva was able to connect on Stann’s temple with a massive right hook and knock him down and save his career in the process. Silva cashed as a +255 underdog, while Stann was a -280 favorite. In the co-main event, Mark Hunt knocked out Stefan Struve in the third round to improve to a four-fight winning steak in the UFC. It was an excellent back-and-forth fight up until the third, when Hunt was finally able to catch Struve’s chin and knock the 7-footer to the floor before referee Herb Dean stepped in and waved it off. Hunt cashed as a +188 dog, while Struve was a -205 favorite. Also on the main card, Yushin Okami dominated Hector Lombard for two rounds to win a split decision. It was an excellent performance by Okami, who used his size and grappling advantages to neutralize Lombard on the ground and grab the decision. Okami cashed as a +185 underdog, while Lombard was a-190 favorite. As well, featherweight Rani Yahya was able to outwrestle the bigger Mizuto Hirota in the first two rounds to win a clear-cut unanimous decision. It was a very game yet surprising performance by the smaller Yahya, who is one of the best-kept secrets in the UFC featherweight division. Yahya closed as a +140 underdog, while Hirota was a -150 favorite. And finally, in one of the first fights of the night, Alex Caceres won a controversial split decision over Kyung Ho Kang to stretch his win streak to three wins. The first two rounds looked like they belonged to Kang in most peoples’ eyes, but two of the judges somehow awarded Caceres the second round and after he dominated the third round, he won the split decision. Caceres closed as a +110 underdog, while Kang was a -120 favorite.
