World Series of Fighting 19 took place tonight (Saturday, March 28, 2014) at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Phoenix, Arizona, and it features some very violent and entertaining finishes. Overall from a betting perspective, three betting favorites won while one underdog won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, Justin Gaethje defended his lightweight title against veteran Luis Palomino. Both men landed huge blows against each other, willing to eat huge shots to connect big bombs of their own. It was a war, but the leg kicks from Gaethje were the deciding factor as he did some serious damage to the lower half of the Peruvian before finishing him off with ground strikes. Gaethje came through as a -500 favorite (bet $500 to win $100) while Palomino lost at +435 (bet $100 to win $435). In a bantamweight contest, Timur Valiev put a hurting on Ed West. Valiev showcased incredible striking, landing heavy blows early and quickly putting West away with some vicious strikes just 90 seconds into the first round. When it was all said and done, Valiev came through as a massive -450 favorite, while West was defeated as a +400 underdog. In a light heavyweight bout, Clifford Starks defeated Jake Heun via second round submission. Starks controlled most of the first round with superior wrestling on the ground and better positioning in the clinch. Eventually, he locked in an arm triangle after surviving a Kimura attempt and forced a stoppage late in the second round. Starks cashed at -175 while Heun lost at +145. Underdogs That Won In a light heavyweight bout, Teddy Holder shocked the world by finishing Thiago Silva in the first round. Holder and Silva both traded big shots early, but it was a right hand from Holder that surprisingly sent the former top UFC contender crashing to the canvas. Holder followed up with ground and pound from side control until the ref put a stop to the action. Holder pulled off the huge upset at +330 while Silva failed to deliver as a -450 favorite.
