My live dogs for Bellator 133 are: Middleweight bout: Alexander Shlemenko (-280) vs Melvin Manhoef (+220) Gabe’s Thoughts: This is a fight that I could see playing out so many ways, and think is a lot closer than the current betting odds would suggest. I am a big fan of both of these fighters and don’t like being put in situations to bet against either of them, but I don’t think I can pass up Manhoef at +220 in this match-up. I wish the odds were tighter so I could avoid making a play and just sit back and enjoy this one, but if I pass Manhoef up at +220 in a fight I think he has a good chance of winning, it might be days before I stop kicking myself. Manhoef is undoubtedly the more vicious striker between the two in this main event bout and I think there is a good chance he is going to put Shlemenko away. Out of the gate, I expect he will be too fast for the Russian, and ultimately to powerful, resulting in another T/KO victory getting added to the very long list of T/KO victories on the veteran’s professional mixed martial arts resume. Gabe’s Call: Manhoef by T/KO (knee to the body and punches, 0:25 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Plays: Melvin Manhoef (+220) 1.5u to win 3.3u Featherweight bout: Daniel Weichel (+185) vs Pat Curran (-245) Gabe’s Thoughts: Contrary to popular opinion, this is another fight where I don’t agree with the odds. I’m in the minority here, but I think Weichel wins this fight more often than not and think he should be a slight favorite heading into the co-main event contest. Needless to say, I think there is good value in him at the current betting odds of +185 and he is definitely worthy of a wager. I would not be surprised at all if Curran wins this fight, after all he is the favorite, but I would be surprised to see him win in a fashion that justifies him being a -245 betting favorite Weichel. If he does indeed get his hand raised, I think it will be after a tough and grueling, back-and-forth fight. The German has been improving from fight to fight and I cannot say the same for Curran. I think Weichel is gonna raise a lot of eyebrows tonight, and if he does end up losing, as most expect, I think it will be a very competitive decision. This is a fight that could truly come down to a coin-flip when it hits the judges’ scorecards, if it gets there. I would not be surprised to see Weichel convincingly win all three rounds, especially of Curran does not show up on top of his game. That said, this is a scrap I believe will be very competitive much more often than not, if not every time. I am not confident Weichel will win, but I do think this is a fight he wins more often than not, so the fact that he is a +185 betting underdog can’t go avoided and I have to make a move.
