UFC 183 took place Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the event overall was quite entertaining, even though the main event proved to be one of the stranger fights in recent memory. Overall from a betting perspective, eight betting favorites won while three underdogs won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, Anderson Silva defeated Nick Diaz via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45). Silva toyed with Diaz and outstruck him over the course of five rounds for a clear victory. Silva cashed as a -355 favorite (bet $355 to win $100) while Diaz lost at +320 (bet $100 to win $320). In a welterweight bout, Tyron Woodley defeated Kelvin Gastelum via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27). Gastelum had a bad weight cut and just didn’t have what it takes to keep up with Woodley over the course of three rounds, as Woodley ended up edging out a close one for the decision win. Woodley was -185 while Gastelum was +170. In a lightweight bout, Al Iaquinta defeated Joe Lauzon via second-round TKO (punches). Iaquinta was a far superior striker in the fight and was able to land a number of brutal strikes in the second round that put Lauzon out on his feet for the victory. Iaquinta was -185 and Lauzon was +170. In a middleweight bout, Thales Leites defeated Tim Boetsch via second-round submission (arm-triangle choke). Boetsch owned Leites in the first round with his striking, but Leites was able to get the fight to the ground in the second to sink in the fight-ending choke and complete a nice comeback. Leites was -300 while Boetsch was +270. In a middleweight bout, Derek Brunson defeated Ed Herman via first-round TKO (punches). Brunson caught Herman with some big punches early in round one to hand Herman the first knockout loss of his career. Brunson was -660 while Herman was +540. In a middleweight bout, Rafael Natal defeated Tom Watson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26). Natal was able to outstrike Watson with surprising ease as well as take him down at will for a clean sweep on the scorecards. Natal was -135 while Watson was +125. In a middleweight bout, Ildemar Alcantara defeated Richardson Morreira via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). This was a terrible fight where neither man did much of anything, but Alcantara landed a few more significant strikes and was able to come through with the victory. Alcantara was -155 while Morreira was +145. In a middleweight bout, Thiago Santos defeated Andy Enz via first-round TKO (body kick and punches). Santos landed a nasty body kick that hurt Enz badly and he finished him off with strikes for the victory. Santos was a modest -175 favorite while Enz was a +165 dog. Underdogs That Won In a welterweight bout, Thiago Alves defeated Jordan Mein via second-round TKO (body kick and punches). Mein dominated the first round with strikes but Mein was caught to the body in the second round and knocked out in upset fashion. Alves closed at +130 while Mein was -140. In a women’s bantamweight bout, Miesha Tate defeated Sara McMann via majority decision (29-28, 29-27, 28-28). McMann dominated the first round with her wrestling and ground control, but she began to tire in the second round. Tate was able to take advantage of McMann gassing by winning the second and third with top control for a big upset victory. Tate was +165 while McMann was -175. In a catchweight (130lbs) bout, John Lineker defeated Ian McCall via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). McCall took down Lineker in the first to win that round, but Lineker was able to keep the fight standing in the second and third rouns and outstrike McCall en route to a decision win. Lineker was +200 while McCall was -220.
