It took until just a few days leading up to UFC 183 for the betting odds to start taking off. But much like the Super Bowl, the UFC lines have really moved in Las Vegas toward the end of the week thanks in part to the thousands of visitors who are in town to wager on the big game as well. The main event between Anderson “The Spider” Silva (33-6) and Nick Diaz (26-9) is among the leaders as expected. Silva, the former longtime middleweight champion, opened as a -420 favorite (bet $420 to win $100) at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook and moved to -500 on Wednesday before jumping to -650 on Friday. Many other sportsbooks also responded Friday by bumping Silva up to -500, the first line move at Several Bookmakers since Tuesday when he went from -460 to -470 after opening at -440. Silva moved to -570 there on Saturday with Diaz up to +435. UFC commentator Jon Anik noted that Diaz might be worth a look if he gets north of +400, which is certainly the case now. While the main event will likely continue moving in the favorite’s direction from a betting perspective, the two biggest movers for UFC 183 will fight earlier in the night, as Derek Brunson (12-3) takes on Ed Herman (22-10, 1 No-Contest) and Thales Leites (24-4) battles Tim Boetsch (18-7) in two more middleweight bouts. Brunson is the biggest favorite on the board, sitting -800 at the SuperBook and -660 at Several Bookmakers as of early Saturday. Herman has split his last two UFC fights, both by unanimous decision against two opponents who will also be participating on this card (a loss to Leites and a win over Rafael Natal). Leites is a -465 favorite at Several Bookmakers, riding a seven-bout winning streak into Vegas following a second-round knockout victory against Francis Carmont last Aug. 23 that earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. Boetsch has won two of three, with the lone loss over that stretch coming to Luke Rockhold via first-round submission at UFC 172. He scored a second-round TKO of Brad Tavares in his last fight in August to win a Performance of the Night Bonus as well, making for an interesting matchup with Leites. Please note: Kelvin Gastelum missed weight on Friday for his welterweight matchup against Tyron Woodley and went from a -115 favorite at the SuperBook to +160 in a little more than 24 hours. Woodley jumped from -105 to -180 in Vegas and was -170 at Several Bookmakers as of Saturday morning.
