WSOF 16 took place Saturday night at McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento, California, and featured two title fights, one which produced a new WSOF champion. Overall from a betting perspective, four betting favorites won won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers, while one fight closed as a Pick ’em. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, Rousimar Palhares defeated Jon Fitch via first-round submission (kneebar) to retain the WSOF welterweight title. Once again Palhares got the tapout with his signature move to once again reign supreme in the WSOF welterweight division. Palhares closed at -115 (bet $115 to win $100) while Fitch closed at +105 (bet $100 to win $105). In a bout, Sheymon Moraes defeated Gabriel Solorio via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27). It was a competitive bout but the judges felt Moraes did enough to get the nod. Moraes was -320 while Solorio was +290. In a bout, Josh Berkovic defeated Brenson Hansen via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3). Berkovic scored takedowns to get the UD victory. Berkovic was -130 while Hansen was +120. In a lightweight bout, Lewis Gonzalez defeated Justin Buchholz via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28). Gonzalez is a sleeper in the WSOF lightweight division and showed once again he has solid potential by taking out a veteran in Buchholz. Gonzalez closed at -145, while Buchholz closed at +135. Pick ‘Em Fights In the co-main event, Lance Palmer defeated Rick Glenn via third-round submission (rear-naked choke) to become the new WSOF featherweight champion. Palmer used his grappling advantage to the fullest in this fight, taking home the title in his adopted hometown in impressive fashion. Both men closed exactly the same at -105.
