MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Bellator 127 lightweight Saad Awad as he prepares for his upcoming preliminary card bout against Sergio Rios this Friday (October 3, 2014) at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.
The former Bellator tournament finalist expects a tough test against the talented unbeaten grappler, but he feels his MMA grappling is just as good as Rios’:
“While I’m only a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I firmly, firmly believe that I’m a black belt in MMA jiu-jitsu. I firmly believe that. If I can throw elbows on the ground, my scrambling is very good and I’m not afraid to go to the floor with anyone as long as I can punch them while they’re doing jiu-jitsu. When they’re attacking with jiu-jitsu, a lot of things open up. If they’re trying to set something up, that’s where I unload with punches or elbows and I think that’s where I shine on the ground the most if the fight goes to the floor.”
