MMAOddsBreaker Rankings Update (CMigrator copy 11)

RothwellWith UFC Fight Night 50, Invicta FC 8 and Bellator 123 taking place this past weekend, the MMAOddsBreaker rankings were bound to get shaken up. MMA Oddsbreaker’s Brian Hemminger (@BrianHemminger) and Brad Taschuk (@BradTaschuk) have taken over the reigns of the rankings, which are updated after nearly every UFC event. Brendan Schaub (-1) 15. Matt Mitrione (NR) The biggest movers and shakers in the heavyweight division revolved around Ben Rothwell and Alistair Overeem. The previously unranked Rothwell returned from a suspension for elevated testosterone to knock out Overeem in the first round to score UFC Fight Night 50’s biggest upset. Rothwell makes his debut in the top 15 for his performance while Overeem drops significantly, although remains in the top 15 due to his victory over #2 ranked Fabricio Werdum under the Strikeforce banner. Also making is debut is Matt Mitrione, who scored an emphatic first minute knockout over previously #13-ranked Derrick Lewis. Light Heavyweight

No fights took place this past week that affected the rankings, but we did reinstate Thiago Silva to the top 15 after he was cleared of all charges by the Florida police department and was reinstated by the UFC to return to the light heavyweight division. Light heavyweight is shallow enough that he immediately earned a spot in the top 15 once again.

Mark Munoz The Jacare vs Mousasi main event from UFC Fight Night 50 had a significant impact on the rankings as Jacare moves up one spot past Lyoto Machida for defeating Mousasi in more convincing fashion than “The Dragon” did, while Mousasi drops down several positions after suffering his second loss at 185 pounds. Mousasi now holds a 2-2 UFC record and a 1-2 record in the crowded UFC middleweight division. Featherweight

The Bellator 123 main event also had a significant impact on the featherweight rankings as Patricio Pitbull takes a leap in the rankings following his impressive unanimous decision victory over champion Pat Curran, who drops two positions. Also dropping is former UFC title challenger Chan Sung Jung, who has been inactive ever since he fought Jose Aldo last year and recently pulled out of his return bout against Akira Corassani.

Justin Scoggins drops in the flyweight rankings following his second round submission loss to John Moraga this past weekend. We did not move Moraga up, however, as he was clearly losing the fight before catching Scoggins with the choke during a takedown attempt. Moraga still has quite a bit to prove at flyweight in our opinion.

Irene Aldana (NR) Irene Aldana makes her debut in the top 15 in place of the injured Miriam Nakamoto following her incredibly impressive Invicta debut this past weekend, dropping Peggy Morgan twice before finishing The Ultimate Fighter season 18 veteran with a rear naked choke. Women’s Strawweight 1. Jessica Aguilar 2. Claudia Gadelha 3. Carla Esparza 4. Ayaka Hamasaki 5. Joanne Calderwood 6. Tecia Torres 7. Joanna Jedrzejczyk 8. Mizuki Inoue 9. Katja Kankaanpaa 10. Karolina Kowalkeiwicz While Stephanie Eggink lost her title fight to Katja Kankaanpaa this past weekend in the Invicta FC 8 co-main event, she put on such an impressive performance that we’re giving her a big boost in the rankings. She was up 39-36 on our scorecards heading into the fifth round (following a 10-8 fourth round in her favor) before she was submitted by Kankaanpaa. We would not be surprised if Eggink were favored in a rematch so we’re bumping her all the way up to 10th in our rankings.
