MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Bellator 124 light heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton as he prepares for his upcoming main event title bout against Joey Beltran tomorrow night (September 12th, 2014) at the Compuware Arena in Plymouth Township, Michigan.
The talented champion knows he has a stern test in front of him, but he’s looking forward to actually competing against someone who’s going to bring the fight to him rather than sit back and try to counter all night:
“If [Joey Beltran] gets the win, then he becomes the champion. If he gets the loss, no big deal. I think Joey Beltran’s a good match-up for me. My last opponent, Attila [Vegh], was just waiting and trying to counter me. I think I threw like 260-300 strikes and he only threw 115 the whole fight. Beltran’s not that kind of fighter. Beltran’s the kind of guy who’s stay in your face, push it, brawl ya and come get it. That’s good for my style because that’s when my spinning stuff, my 360 low kicks, my spinning back kicks and all this stuff comes into play really well countering him. I know I’m the better wrestler. I know I’m the better striker. I don’t look down on any of my opponents but I don’t think Joey Beltran stands any chance against me.”
