Invicta FC 8 took place tonight (Sept. 6, 2014) at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri, and the card overall provided quite a bit of action for hardcore fans, especially during a great main card that featured a number of impressive finishes. In total, four favorites and two underdogs won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, Michelle Waterson defeated Yasuko Tamada via third-round TKO (strikes) to defend the Invicta FC atomweight championship. Waterson won as a -1125 favorite (bet $1125 to win $100) while Tamada lost as a +575 dog (bet $100 to win $575). In the co-main event of the evening, Katja Kankaanpää defeated Stephanie Eggink via fifth-round submission (D’arce choke) to win the Invicta FC strawweight championship. Kankaanpää was down big heading into the final stanza but managed to squeeze in a tight choke and pull off a huge comeback win. She cashed as a -160 favorite while Eggink lost as a +120 dog. In a women’s flyweight bout, Deanna Bennett defeated Michelle Ould via second-round TKO (liver kick and punches). Bennett hurt Ould with her knees to the body in the first before softening her up and finishing her with a liver kick in the second. Bennett won at -230 while Ould lost at +170. In a women’s bantamweight bout, Irene Aldana defeated Peggy Morgan via first-round submission (rear-naked). Aldana smashed Morgan with punches, knocking her down twice in the first before sinking in the RNC for the win. Aldana cashed at -155 while Morgan lost at +115. Underdogs That Won In a catchweight bout, Tonya Evinger defeated Ediane Gomes via first-round submission (armbar). Evinger and Gomes went back-and-forth with submission attempts but Evinger finally was able to lock a good one in and get the armbar for the win. Evinger won as a +245 dog while Gomes was a -365 favorite. In a women’s bantamweight bout, Roxy Modafferi defeated Tara LaRosa via unanimous decision (30-27 x 2, 29-28). Modafferi looked great on the feet, absolutely torching LaRosa in all three rounds en route to a clear-cut win. Modafferi won at +185 while LaRosa lost at -265.
