Glory returns this weekend with a heavyweight tournament, and MMA veteran Pat Barry’s first foray into the Glory ring. Those are not the biggest attractions on the card however, as Karapet Karapetyan takes on Marc de Bonte for the promotion’s welterweight title. Although Karapetyan is the more well-known name to Glory fans, de Bonte actually holds a win over him when the two fought at a higher weight. de Bonte lacks the same experience cutting down to 170lbs that Karapetyan has, so cardio could play a factor as this is a five round bout. A heavyweight tournament being booked in Denver, Colorado could result in some interesting third rounds, Glory always brings an entertaining night of kickboxing, and their 16th show should be no different. The tournament features Sergei Kharitonov, Anderson Silva, Errol Zimmerman, and Ben Edwards. All four of those men hit hard, and it will be in their best interest to end their semi-final fights early in order to avoid the cardio problems that the elevation is sure to bring about. In the reserve bout for the heavyweight tournament, Pat Barry takes on boxer Zack Mwekassa who may struggle to adapt to a higher level of leg attacks than he is normally used to. Still, Barry’s problem in MMA was his chin, and that is something the hard-hitting Mwekassa could certainly exploit, given the opportunity.
