Bellator 117 took place tonight in Council Bluffs, Iowa and the card overall was quite a bit of fun as it featured a number of vicious stoppages that excited the fans watching both at home and those live in attendance. Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, Douglas Lima defeated Rick Hawn via second-round TKO (corner stoppage) to become the new Bellator welterweight champion. Lima toyed with Hawn in the first round, beating his opponent up with brutal leg kicks and punches. He continued to kick at Hawn’s left leg in the second round until Hawn’s corner called the fight off. Lima cashed as a -280 favorite (bet $280 to win $100), while Hawn lost as a +255 dog (bet $100 to win $255). In a lightweight tournament semifinal, Marcin Held defeated Derek Anderson via second-round submission (triangle choke). In round one Held was able to land a takedown to get the fight down to the ground but failed to land his patented heel hook. Then in the second, Anderson had him rocked on the feet and Held began to flop to his back. Anderson wasn’t having of it, but Held went for a rolling takedown attempt, surprisingly got it, and then locked in a slick triangle choke off his back to pick up the win. Held, who moved to the finals of the lightweight tournament, closed as a -190 favorite, while Anderson closed as a +175 dog. In a welterweight bout, Karl Amoussou defeated David Gomez via split decision. Although Amoussou didn’t look anything close to the fighter he was a few years ago, he did enough with his striking and wrestling to get his hand raised and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Amoussou was a -380 favorite, while Gomez was a +315 dog. In a lightweight tournament semifinal, Patricky Pitbull defeated Derek Campos via second-round TKO (punches). Pitbull started off the fight very flat and Campos looked like he was going to cruise to a victory, but he was flattened with a stiff jab by Pitbull early in the second round and the Brazilian followed it up with a number of strikes until the referee jumped in and stopped it. Pitbull closed as a -115 favorite, while Campos was a +105 dog. Pitbull now takes on Held in the lightweight tournament finals.
