UFC on FOX 4: August 4, 2012 Staples Center in Los Angeles, California UFC Featherweight Contender Cole Miller (-125) Profile: A TUF 5 alum and slick submission grappler, Cole Miller (18-6) has had an up-and- down UFC career that has seen the 28-year-old lose two out of his last three bouts, leaving his career mark in the organization at 6-4. Although he is dangerous on the ground, Miller has been neutralized as of late by bigger, stronger fighters in the UFC. While he dropped 10 pounds to fight at 145 after nearly five years at lightweight, he still lost his debut there to Steven Siler at UFC on FX 2. UFC Featherweight Contender Nam Phan (-105) Profile: A fan favorite and worldly veteran of MMA, Nam Phan (17-10) has fought in the WEC, KOTC, Strikeforce, K-1 and the UFC to name a few. Phan made his UFC debut after an unsuccessful run in the TUF 11 house and fell to Leonard Garcia via an extremely controversial split-decision loss in the UFC’s first featherweight match ever at the season finale. Since that night, the 29-year-old lost to former WEC champ Mike Brown via UD, then gained his revenge on Garcia with a decision win of his own. A black belt in karate and BJJ, Phan feels comfortable on the feet and on the ground. Opening UFC on FOX 4 Odds Analysis: MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas has made Miller a small -125 favorite (bet $125 to win $100) against Phan, who opened as a -105 underdog according to the MMA odds. A pair of former contestants from different seasons of The Ultimate Fighter will hook up here and try to impress the bosses in the UFC to extend their contracts. Neither has been particularly impressive of late, with each coming off losses and needing a victory badly in this spot. Miller is more of a submission specialist with 13 of his 18 wins ending that way while Phan has knocked out seven opponents among his 17 victories. Of their 16 combined losses, 11 have gone the distance, so MMA bettors can expect both of these fighters to work hard throughout and try to score points with the judges.
