MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC Fight Night 38 lightweight Michael Johnson as he prepares for main card bout Saturday (March 7, 2014) against Melvin Guillard at the O2 Arena in London, England.
The talented Ultimate Fighter season 12 finalist is on the verge of contention, and he knows he has a tough test ahead of him in his former teammate:
“We broke this down. We know Melvin. We’re used to his style. He was a teammate of ours. We watched plenty of fights. We know exactly how Melvin fights, what he’s good at, what he’s not good at. We’re not really too worried about Melvin’s wrestling. He has wrestling but he never uses it. Melvin’s a stand-up-and-fight kinda guy, which is the same as me. It’s great to know we’ll have a stand-up fight. In the back of my mind, I know if I need to take Melvin down, I can take him down and work my submissions. Me and Jorge Santiago have been working tremendously on jiu-jitsu moves and the basics. I’ve been picking up my level and rolling with every black belt we’ve got in the gym and getting better and better every day. I just have to watch out for Melvin’s right hand.”
