His last outing saw him lose a controversial split-decision to Ronny Markes at UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger, his first setback since he fell to Mark Munoz in early 2011. Now at the age of 37, Simpson looks at one final run in the middleweight division, and it starts against fellow welterweight contender Kenny Robertson at UFC on FUEL TV: Munoz vs. Weidman. UFC Welterweight Contender Kenny Robertson (+210) Profile: A wrestler with heavy hands, Kenny Robertson (11-1) is still looking to make his mark on the UFC. The 28-year-old started out his career 10-0 with fights around the independent circuit and Bellator and was invited to fight Mike Pierce at UFC 126, where he was defeated seconds into the second round by a barrage of Pierce’s fists. Robertson was immediately cut by Zuffa after his loss, but he grabbed an incredible spinning backfist win last October at Fight Festival 31, and the UFC came knocking after the originally scheduled opponent for fellow welterweight contender Aaron Simpson was injured close to his upcoming UFC on FUEL TV appearance. Now Robertson looks to take advantage of this second chance and redeem himself. Opening UFC on FUEL TV Odds Analysis: MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas made Simpson a solid -280 favorite (bet $280 to win $100) while Robertson opened as a +210 underdog (bet $100 to win $210) according to the MMA odds. Simpson has simply fought better quality opponents during his career while Robertson is still trying to break through with his first victory in the UFC. The fact that Robertson’s last eight bouts have taken place in eight different organizations speaks volumes for his status as a true journeyman. Simpson may have split his past six fights in the UFC, but at least he has managed to stick. He was originally scheduled to face Jon Fitch and would have likely been an underdog in that matchup, so it will be important for him not to overlook Robertson and stay focused on earning a victory.
