With a high profile UFC on Fox 9 event taking place last week, the MMAOddsBreaker rankings were bound to get shook up. MMA Oddsbreaker’s Brian Hemminger (@BrianHemminger) and Jason Nawara (@JasonNawara) have taken over the reigns of the rankings, which will now be updated after every UFC event. Johny Hendricks (NR) The big shake-up in the pound for pound rankings is the removal of former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, who took a leave of absence from the sport and vacated his title just over a week ago. This bumps nearly everyone up a spot except Demetrious Johnson, who looked exceptional last weekend with a thunderous first round knockout of top contender Joseph Benavidez. We felt Johnson deserved a bump in the rankings considering it was his fourth consecutive title fight victory and he’d emphatically dispatched his most legitimate rival. Welterweight 1. Johny Hendricks (2) 2. Robbie Lawler (4) 3. Carlos Condit 4. Matt Brown (5) 5. Rory MacDonald (6) 6. Jake Ellenberger (7) 7. Dong Hyun Kim (8) 8. Ben Askren (9) 9. Jake Shields (10) 10. Hector Lombard (NR) Again, the biggest shift in welterweight was the removal of GSP, which bumped everyone up a notch. The only other difference for us was leapfrogging Robbie Lawler over Carlos Condit. Lawler is coming off a huge win over Rory MacDonald and is getting a shot at the vacant title against Johny Hendricks, so we felt it was only fair that he gets the number two spot, at least for now. Bantamweight 1. Renan Barao 2. Urijah Faber 3. Dominick Cruz 4. Rafael Assuncao (5) 5. Michael McDonald (4) 6. Marlon Moraes 7. Takeya Mizugaki 8. Eduardo Dantas 9. Bibiano Fernandes 10. Eddie Wineland The only change at bantamweight was the flip-flopping of Michael McDonald and Rafael Assuncao. Assuncao has been on a roll in the UFC bantamweight division, and McDonald’s very disappointing performance against Urijah Faber was more than enough to convince us he deserved to be knocked down a peg. Justin Scoggins By far the biggest change in all the rankings was Zach Makovsky, who goes from unranked at flyweight to number six in our top 10. “Fun Size” had a tremendous UFC debut, disposing of former top 10 bantamweight Scott Jorgensen on short notice, just a few weeks after claiming the RFA flyweight title.
