UFC on FOX 9 was a very entertaining card from top to bottom, as not only were there some great, competitive fights, there were also a number of surprising finishes that came out of left field. For today’s Odds and Ends, I’ve looked through the list of prop bets from the card and selected a number of them that you may have overlooked, but which would have made you a much richer man/woman if you had bet them. So here we go: five crazy UFC on FOX 9 prop bets that cashed big. Demetrious Johnson wins by T/KO (+1000)/Johnson wins in round one (+1400)/Johnson wins KOTN (+3000) In the main event of UFC on FOX 9, Demetrious Johnson capped off an amazing 2013 for himself with his third win of the year, knocking out Joseph Benavidez cold in round one with a stiff right hand. The prop on Johnson to win by T/KO hit at +1000, and Johnson winning in round one hit at +1400. Both of those prop bets were huge to anyone who bet them, but Johnson also earned the KOTN award, and the odds on that were an incredible +3000. If anyone hit that prop, let me know, because it’s rare for things like that to cash out. Urijah Faber wins by submission (+350)/Faber wins in round two (+775)/Faber wins SOTN (+600) In the co-main event of the evening, Urijah Faber defeated Michael McDonald via second-round submission (guillotine choke) in what was arguably his most impressive performance inside the Octagon thus far. The prop on Faber to win by sub cashed out at +350, which was a nice hit, but if you bet on Faber to win in round two at +775 that was even nicer. And if you bet on Faber wins the SOTN award at +600, that’s a nice cherry on top. Chad Mendes Wins By Decision (+270) In a featherweight bout on the main card, Chad Mendes took out Nik Lentz via unanimous decision. Most thought Mendes would snare another knockout victory, but he admitted after the fight that he was sick and therefore didn’t have the usual pep in his step. Despite Mendes being a -900 betting favorite, the prop on Mendes wins by decision was +270, so if you put down a little coin on that nice job, because there was definitely tremendous value on that prop. Danny Castillo vs. Edson Barboza wins Fight Of The Night (+1200) In a lightweight barnburner that lit the roof on fire, Danny Castillo and Edson Barboza went to war for three rounds and were rewarded the “Fight of the Night” bonus check for their incredible efforts. I think that this fight should have been scored a draw and I feel like Castillo got the short end of the stick, but I’m sure he’ll enjoy his $50,000 award and to anyone who bet on this winning FOTN at +1200, nice job. Zach Makovsky Wins By Decision (+290) And finally, in a bantamweight bout on the preliminary card, Zach Makovsky outstruck and outgrappled Scott Jorgensen en route to a unanimous decision win. I thought the fight was super close and could have went either way, and I thought the judges’ 30-27 scorecards were off, but Makovsky definitely looked better than I thought and it’s hard to argue the decision either way. The prop bet on Makovsky to score the upset via decision was +290, so congrats if you bet that prop.
