MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC on Fox 9 welterweight Court McGee as he prepares for his preliminary card bout tonight (Dec. 14, 2013) against Ryan LaFlare at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
The Pit Elevated Fighter hasn’t hid his struggles with drug addiction in the past, and while he’s stayed sober for over seven years now, he’s still keeping track of every day and taking his sobriety very seriously:
“I’ve been sober for 2,786 days. Since April 16th, 2006. It’s a ‘one day at a time’ thing for me. I wake up, ask God what I should do for the day and ask him to keep me sober. I couldn’t stay sober. From when I started using and drinking, the most I stayed sober on my own was two weeks and one day. I couldn’t stop using. Once I started, I could not stop. I wanted to. It’s important for me to remember that it’s a one day at a time thing for me. Even if I have seven and a half years of sobriety, it doesn’t matter.”
