MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Invicta Fighting Championship 7 strawweight Carla Esparza as she prepares for her promotional debut tonight (Dec. 7, 2013) against Tecia Torres at Ameristar Casino in Kansas City, Missouri.
The popular Team Curran fighter is bracing for a stiff test against a very talented prospect in the undefeated Torres, but she feels her well-roundedness could be a major factor come fight time.
“I think [Tecia Torres] is one-dimensional. If you’ve seen one of her fights, you’ve kind of seen them all. I watched her Invicta debut. They all looked the same. I don’t see her doing anything to me that I haven’t seen before… Even from her fight with Paige VanZant, she seemed susceptible to takedowns. She seems to be taken down easily. Her wrestling doesn’t seem as good as it should be for somebody who doesn’t want to go to the ground. Fighters evolve all the time, like constantly. I don’t know how much she could have evolved since her last fight since Rose, because it really hasn’t been that long, but I know, for me, I’m always evolving. I’m constantly working on my weaknesses and just trying to become a better fighter and evolve.”
